The holidays were over! Soon the lights would be going out and all the trees would be coming down all over the town. Ours was outside already for the birds and what ever else needed shelter. I hated to see Christmas go away. Every thing looked so plain.
There were lots of cookies and candy left, but they no longer interested me. Neither did my toys. I just wanted to go outside. I looked out the window and just watched the snow come down. I loved the snow but of course I couldnt go out. I was still sick and now I had bronchitis again. I would go from the back bedroom to the living room window and watch the Selfridge St. Gang having fun. This would be one long winter.
The cousins and the aunts came often and brought things to me. I had more coloring books, crayons, and cut out books than you could imagine. Pop would come home from work hiding a Dixie cup in his pocket for me. Grammy would sneak some chocolate Tasty Kake cupcakes into me in the morning. It didnt help!
I wanted out side!
One morning pop came into the room and asked me what was wrong. I told him and he said wait well see what we can do. I said ok and a few minutes later I was called into the kitchen. Pop had gotten a basin of snow for me to play with. There is sat on the kitchen table and grammy allowed it. I didnt know what to figure about that. So I played with it. I made snowballs and snowmen and even got my dolls involved and had water all over the floor. Well my dog pal took care of that. He licked up every drop.
Soon grammy put me in the sink and washed me down with hot water and I got plopped into bed.
It was fun to play with the snow in the kitchen but it really wasnt what I wanted.
The next day after breakfast grammy dressed me nice and warm. I was in my snow suit and boots and scarf and, well you remember the drill. There was a blanket hanging by the stove warming up along with the goose down pillows and quilt. Grammy made all our pillows and quilts with goose down.
We went out side and there was grammys good living room chair sitting on the walk! Mr. Fertile came over and helped pop carry it out side. It was sitting on the rug from the willow tree room. The blanket went on the chair first, then the quilt, the pillow on the bottom and me on top and all wrapped around me. I WAS OUTSIDE!!! I couldnt believe it. The sun was shining and it was wonderful after months of inside. Pal was running around in the snow and finally came and laid on the rug next to me and I fell asleep.
When I woke up it was lunch time and I felt so good. A few days later the man who was a wood carver brought down a wooden chair for me to sit on and it could be left out side. No more heavy lifting for pop and Mr. Fertile. Everyday after that I was outside in that chair when the weather was clear. The doctor and the witch lady said thats what cured my bronchitis. Who was I to argue about that medicine?
I was taken care of very well by family and friends until my recovery. Thats what its all about. Caring.
