I know now what I did not know as a child. August can be HOT.
Today there are pools of all kinds, round, inflatable, inground, above ground. You name it they have manufactured it. As a child I had a tub. My baby bath tub which was white with blue trim. Enamal if you please. I graduated to grammys wash tub. Well it was nice and there was always the hose and pop was more than happy to squirt me with it. These were the times when my dog Pal wouldn�t leave my side. He loved water!
Those things would seem crude to todays children but I wonder if they know what they are missing?
Theres always the grass, of course in mid day it was not cool enough to lay in but early in the morning or when the sun went down in the evening or under the shade of a tree it was always soft and cool, and on hot summer nights we got to sleep outside on the grass. That was fun. The sun would wake us early we would have breakfast and just enjoy the day. My favorite pastime was stealing veggies from the garden.. Of course I blamed the dog..
There were the days when pop and I would walk into the mtn and go to a stream with a water fall. I would sit in it and play and catch tad poles or frogs or crawfish. It was fun. For some reason tho grammy wouldn�t let me keep them. Today I know why. I raised 3 boys and I sorta found out the hard way, doing the laundry! I would find the remains of the various catchs from the local tide water creek. Eeeghads! I always thought meself a tomboy.. guess not 100%.
After a good rain I was allowed to go out front and stand in the water rushing down the street from the road above. That was fun and grammy always standing by with a towel and my slippers.
I wouldn�t trade all the wealth in the world to have anything I wanted because I would have missed all the precious things I had.
Life was fun because we lived it with what we had! Can our children or grands say the same? �I wouldn�t trade one day with my grandparents and the fun we had� Makes ya wonder doesn�t it?
