"I DIDNT KNOW IT WAS THAT COLOR! "

Well here I go again, exploring my new world!

In January I had my first cataract removed. Nothing to it! Our youngest son took me for both the surgeries and stayed with me. The surgery took all of 20 minutes. I was gone from home for a total of 3 hours. The next day I saw the surgeon for my first post-op. Off came the eye guard in went some drops, and I was asked to read the chart on the wall, I did and it was dropped down to smaller letters, yeah right I could really read that and then wonder of wonders, I read it!

My daughter-in-law (hate that in law thing) had taken me for the pre-op and on the way home I read every sign that I saw, of course the smaller letters were still a blur. When she dropped me off she called my son at work and he called me. He asked what I did to his wife on the way home and I told him I dont know as I did anything, and if I did I will call and apologize. He broke into that beautiful laugh he has, and said she told me you read every sign between the docs office and home! Well I did.

That night watching TV was a bit hard, had to put those nice dark glasses on that Doc gave me ( wore them every time I went out the door). They say it takes 3-4 months for the vision to really come to focus. OK no worries. The drill is no lifting anything over 30 lbs. for a few weeks. Fine by me, I told the Doc, does that mean I sit for a few weeks in one spot since I weigh more than 30 lbs.? That got him to laugh. Drops in the eyes 4X a day; well thats when CRS steps in big time!

I devised a plan, when I went to bed at night I put the drops in and laid the bottles down, (indicating I did them when I went to bed) in the morning after putting the drops in, I stood them upright, now you got it!

I didnt drive for 2 weeks since the other eye hadnt been done, and we had a snow storm so I stayed put. Didnt want anyone hitting me and dislodging the implanted lenses! Things were looking good and oh did I find dust and cobwebs now that I could see. I went on a 3 day cleaning binge. Poor Sparky just had a ball but oh was he tired from chasing the rags I used. Well I got in the car the next day, after looking up and down the street for a few days to see how good my vision really was, and went to the drug store, brave me, went to the bank to visit a friend came home proud as a peacock.

February 4th I went in for my second surgery, took all of 20 min and the left eye was good to go. Again I saw the surgeon the next day and all was well and reading better than he expected! Well you know the drill Mrs. B see ya in 2 weeks. That was on a Wednesday, Sunday off I went to New Jersey to visit the son and of course stop and buy Girl Scout cookies from my granddaughter. Record! 4 days and I was on the road again. Of course I had to wear the sunglasses but what the hay, they helped.

When I saw the Doc in 2 weeks he asked how everything was and told him of driving to NJ that Sunday and how much more dirt I found and that I could look at the moon and there was no aura of mixed colors! I missed seeing that moon in all its glory! Now when I drive, there is only one car not 1 in front of me, I see headlights but.only 2 per car! I thought, I had a blue robe, but actually it is more of a lavender blue, nice to see color again! Nice to see faces again, well hell its just plain nice to see again!

I got my $45,000.00 worth with the surgeries, I can see and now I can soon do some crocheting, and I can read the paper! Havent done that in a long time without getting headaches, of which may I add I dont get anymore. This week I see the optometrist for new glasses and wonder of wonders, I dont need glasses to drive anymore!

Fear not the cataract surgery, its a cake walk, my Doctors and nurses were fantastic. Actually I spent my pre and post op time in a recliner and my son was able to be with me. When it was almost time for my surgery I was taken into another room, I was sedated, eye numbed, and awake during the surgery. Glad I was, the surgeon and anesthesiologist took me to the OR on my bed, opened the door and shouted delivery of course the nurse caught the gurney and I grabbed my tummy and said oh no not again! They all laughed.

All I can say is, if you have cataracts, get them out as soon as you can, you dont know what you are missing and research your ophthalmologist and make sure he is board certified and then still keep checking. I lucked out and had the best in town and people that know I have had the surgery ask me who did the work, when I say his name, the reply I get is he is the greatest and they tell me who he did the work on. Guess everyone in the area and beyond has had him.

        Aint life grand!
