Glacierview Gus
Registered BueLingo
Daisy with newborn Cookieman Sired by Glacierview Gus
The first sire I used to start my herd was the results of breeding a beautiful Registered BueLingo bull, Glacierview Gus to one of my purebred Jersey, Daisy. I then sold Daisey to a friend with a calf back agreement. Little did I know at that time that the resylting calf would sire 2 full sisters that would be the start of my heard.
The results of that breeding was a real nice1/2 Jersey, 1/2 BeuLingo bull with a perfect full, wide white belt, I named Cookieman. He inherited a more Jersey type frame rather than the beef frame of his sire. This was good and I decided to keep him to breed my beloved Jessiecow.
When I went to fetch the calf, I brought him home in the back of my station wagon! I had some strange looks from people coming up along side of me and some very surprised youngsters comments as they drove alongside the wagon. Naturally there were a few stops made to satisfy the request yelled by the children wanting to see the Oreo cookie cow!
Cookie had a wonderful temperment from day one and would even let small children ride him, even after I traded him to a girlfriend for a breeding of her stallion to my Morgan mare. Although she was going to put  him in the freezer, she fell in love with him and decided against it. However, she had a hard time keeping him home. He would sneak out and go down the road to visit the girls in the neighbors herd, siring many belted and Panda looking calves.

2 yr. old Cookieman
Jesssie raised Cookie
& her 93 heifer   Pearl
Here lies the BEGINNING of my herd! My FIRST foundation sire. Seeing when I brought Cookie home he was a just a 3 day old calf he was given to me lone purebred Jersey, Jessiecow to raise along with her week old heifer calf, Pearl. The picture below shows the 2 youngsters at about 5 months old.
Jessie was AI bred one more time in 1993 with GreenRidge Potter semen from Select Sires and gave me a beautiful heifer calf in 94. She was over a week late in her calving and I just knew it would be a bull. So before the calf was born I gave it the name of Bullwinkle. When she arrived I was very surprised to see it was a heifer so it's name was changed to HERwinkle instead.
Pearl was sold to a good friend, and she also decided she wanted Herwinkle too. Seeing that Cookie was now mature I felt it was time to see what he could do. THIS would be the start of my herd. Cookie was bred to Jessie 2 years in a row and both calves were heifers.
Jessie was getting pretty old now, 16. I thought I would try one last time for a purebred Jersey calf so I had her AIed one las time. However, in her 5th month of pregnancy She became very ill and went downhill drasticly in just a week. Both my vet and I worked hand and hand to try to save her, with no luck.
My beloved Jessiecow was put to rest on New Years Eve Day 2000, as her head lay in my lap. I will NEVER forget her. There will NEVER be another Jessicow.
