Bisons, chiefs, demons, etchis, funks, guts, heros, isles, jets, kings, lilies, moons, newts, otanks, prince, queens, rocket, seals, tonkin, ultras, venas, wings, team x, yangs, zeuses. A good lineup I use consist of Casey, dizzy, Clark in outfield rocky/Johnny as pitchers or backup mikey as 2b with power arm for double outs slick shortstop TIPS: pick a team the can hit and move along the bases. In other words if you think you'll win picking all sluggers chances are you wont be able to run the bases right and score without a homerun. Mix it up with a few fast runners and a couple of hitters.. also consider picking a lineup with 2-3 good pitchers... fast pitchers and curve pitchers.... Each player has certain abilities, which can be effected by the time of the day.. to tell what time it is .. After each inning you will see the wooden scoreboard.. the background is usually a light whitish color.. this means its day... while the game progresses the colors will change.. red- dusk and black-night Many different players special abilities will only appear during night, which can make things difficult for balancing your team. When playing the computer you have no choice what so ever of being able to pitch first rather then bat which gives you a disadvantage if your losing come the last inning. The game will end if your losing by 1 before you are up to bat. SWITCH HITTERS: to switch hit press start "PAUSE" then the opposite side you are batting and the game will unpause and you will be batting on the opposite side. You can do this as many times as you want but only certain players can do this. The ones I know of are Arty, Woody, Gene, Mudcat, Peter, Ronnie, Josh. The computer doesn't recognize a player with the ball other then the basement if you're near the running line to a base.. If you have the ball they will run right by you... meanwhile if you pick off this person or throw the ball to the base its an easy out. The game goes into extra innings after the 7th inning.. I've had the privilege of playing to the 14th inning where they automatically put a player on 2nd to start you out and this is the final inning.. if you finish it the game is over and its not considered a tie for moving on.. it's the same as losing Some players constantly give errors when playing on the field. Catching pop flies can be dropped 1/6 times and resulting in extra bases. The players I've noticed which it happens the most to me are mainly Mikey & Cap. If they are near a pop fly chances are it might drop. Josh is the only player in the game I know of which has avoid tag skill. This skill let's you run past a player to steal a base or avoid a tag. You cannot simply attempt an infield homerun with him since it only lets you do this once per base. In other words you can steal home and that's about it or grab 2nd. Some players who may tackle can be countered by blocking. If you have a tackler guarding a base the chances of another tackler trying to knock him over are more slim and will result in an out. Again this is the same for the avoid tag situation. You cannot simply go for an infield homerun through every player because you'll get tagged out. The computer usually picks the same pitchers for each field so get used to playing them... your run into bif, rocky, Johnny, josh a lot of the time so get used to how they pitch and how to hit those kinds of pitches Its also good to have people who can throw fast either in the outfield or on 2nd or ss since they can create more double plays. Make sure you got some players who can run around fast in the outfield or can float since it will save you many runs, which cross the homerun line To get a few runs try and position your players so they don't get thrown out easy.. in other words try to steal 2nd base with a fast runner and chances are you will always make it and if you have someone on third and one out bunt the ball and your player from third will score but the player running to first will be out.... But still you get the run If you end up knocking a ball into grass or behind a rock run because its your chance to get an extra base since the fielders have trouble throwing the ball past the rock and running through the conditions.. that's why I pick players who can float over things Some fields have different rules for them so be sure to read what they say.. also the fields are different in size and hitting homeruns can be more of a challenge Every player has their own little talent to them and you must utilize what they can do... weathers its for defense or offence you don't want a team which does the same thing since you'll lack in other areas... you may have a team of all good runners but they cant throw the ball or you got a team of all good hitters but they cant run around the bases fast. A lot of the players have a fatigue level to them (tire out) so be sure not to use the same player too often for pitching or you wont be able to throw as fast or curve the ball Easy outs: If you have a ball stopped dead in the infield from an error or something have a floater walk over to it... the computer won't run to the next base thinking smart. Well move back from the ball and then float over it.. The computer thinks you'll never get the ball and advances to the next base. Throw the ball and tag them out. Stopping homeruns before they land: When you hear the ball making the long wooooooooooeeeeeeeewww noise have your outfielder move back ASAP and float while doing it... chances are you'll be ahead of the ball and keep up with its speed and you can land your player on the ball as it drops for an out. This will save you many aggravations and prevent many home runs Easy bases: Ok if you run into a pitcher who's going to pitch inside to you simply have your batter run into the ball for a bean ball (dead ball) and your on 1st base... now steal second and you just got an easy double without even swinging your bat. Easy runs: Ok this works mainly for the computer but I guess you can do it to human players as well.. First off you'll need two people on base... now an example.. 1st and 3rd.. have your runner on 3rd attempt to run to home and then have your player on 1st go to 2nd.. the computer will throw to home plate so then run back to 3rd while 2nd gets ignored and you make it back to third while 2nd is taken... you could do vise versa and have 2nd get the attention while you steal home... the computer isn't too smart.. if you're playing a human player just throw the ball to home plate to stop the mess unless you got skills to tag people out. Picking off players can be easier then throwing the ball to a base for many reasons. First off your infielders usually have to run to the bases and then they can catch the ball for some instances though you'll throw the ball to first and ? No one is there to get it and the ball goes to the far end of the foul line... So it's sometimes safer to run to the base and tag the runner out. It's also good in a situation where you're closer to running into a player and getting them out and then throwing.. IE: runner going to second you run from the middle of 2nd to 1st then throw to first or keep running. Sometimes your own players will intercept a throw making you have to throw the ball again and this is where it's effective to have fast throwing infielders such as mikey, slick, and sparky. Don't try to dive for catching pop flies.. jumping straight up will make the out or you'll have the ball hit the ground and you wont get the pop fly.. also just standing under the shadow of the ball and waiting for it to hit will work.. diving should only be used when the ball is rolling or bouncing away out of reach and this will catch the ball Don't steal bases with slow players because it usually doesn't work unless they try to tag you out and you're close to the base.. the odd time you can tackle the player and steal the base. If a player in the outfield can get the ball right as you hit first base chances are you wont make it to second unless they have a slow arm. If you run into binky then you'll get thrown out in no time since he hops around and has a really good arm You can only climb the fence with certain players on certain fields.. the stadium and island are the ones the game lists as fields which you can dive on. Some players may run slow but can dive... if you keep diving you can fly across the field to the ball in no time... also players who fly can move over things faster then walking. (Note that you can't dive diagonally in this game, which is a big flaw in fielding) When a ball hits and object and then you throw it towards one and it stops dead run to the ball and pick it up then press your base you want to run to which will stop people from advancing.. throwing the ball will just cause the computer to take advantage of you and get extra bases.. grabbing the ball stops the play pretty much unless you're playing a human player and they know better. The computer usually relies on the same pitchers for the same fields unless they have been picked... Biff, ace, rocky, Johnny, flip, and peter usually end up pitching against you in one of the fields for a starting lineup. Computer flying idiots: if the computer has a flying player in the outfield (usually left or right field) they will fly towards the ball but won't land and you can sometimes get extra bases till another player comes over. Don't always rely on 1 pitcher the whole game.. some of the other players can pitch just as good an you might not even know it... for instance my lineup has mikey and sparky and slick who can all pitch somewhat decent until I need josh or my backup pitcher Power hitters don't always hit homeruns and you can't always rely on them.. Most of them also have trouble hitting homeruns with slow balls coming at them since the power, which a fastball delivers, doesn't connect right. Most power hitters are the slowest runners and usually have other objects for a bat. These don't necessarily make them the best power hitters but their bats may have a longer reach. Artie I think has the longest with his pickaxe Pitchers usually get changed by the computer if you score 4 or more runs in an inning so don't be surprised if you see it happen a lot of the time if your doing well. Pitching tips for strikes: Throw a ball to the far side of the batter away from him then pitch inside of the plate and most of the time you'll get a strike... also try pitching from the far side of the mount to the other side of the plate using a slow pitch by holding up while throwing then immediately curve the ball before its near the batters reach.. the computer usually swings... playing against a human player can be even more fun since most people swing at anything... the secret is if you see a pitcher slide to the far side of the mound don't swing and see what they are trying to do since the result is usually a ball. There are three ways to get a home run in this game- 1)- hit the ball beyond the white line, which is the home run line 2)- hit the ball over the wall/barrier/fence if there is no home run line 3)- in park home runs which can be done when the ball gets stuck behind something and all your players are advanced to home plate Mercy- This is the term used in baseball when your beating the opposing team so bad they call the rest of the game... mercy in this game happens when you finish the inning with a score more then 10 of the opposing team. I.e.: 12-2 if you finish the last up in the bottom of the inning the game will end and you'll win if you have 10 or more runs then the teams score. Fielding- Keep a good reminder in this game your basemen DO NOT pick up the ball when they are running to their designated plate. The ball goes right through them. The odd occasion your ss will fill in for your 2b and your 2b might fill in for your 1b depending on where the ball is hit giving certain players control. The main players you control on the field movement wise are your outfielders, pitcher, and usually ss or 2b if they cover a base. These players have free movement and don't just sit at the bases, which can be frustrating when you want the closest player running or diving for the ball. Controls- Remember that when you throw the ball to the base you must press the control pad to the desired base or you'll end up throwing to the wrong one. Right= 1st base, Up= 2nd base, Left= 3rd base, Down= Home plate. To throw the ball press a and the direction which represents the base... a lot of people have the problem of wanting to throw the ball to second base and pressing down and a.. this throws the ball to home plate! Picking off a player.. once your basement or fielder has the ball and your stuck with a runner going back and forth between plates its time to pick them off. To pick off a player press the direction of the base and b while holding the ball. Your player will run down the line towards the base and attempt to knock into the player for an out. Keep in mind you can't always tackle the larger players such as fuji, Diablo, bruno and a couple others. Doing so gets you knocked off your feet and you lose control of the ball like an error. NOTE: You cannot tackle a player if he is larger then you and has the ball HOME TEAM- Blue AWAY TEAM- RED HAPPY FACE- Safe SAD FACE- Out B button- Picking off, diving, jumping, flying up, pitching, advance base A button- throw ball on field, fly down, pitch, swing bat, run back to base DIVING- Hold the direction you want to dive and press b (can't dive diagonally) JUMPING- just stand still and press b CLIMBING FENCE- only certain players can climb the fence.. to do so go next to the fence and press the direction up or towards the fence and they climb to the top of it (I've only found that sparky and stan can do this and it can only be done on fields with walls or fences... cannot climb school wall and the parks wall is way in the back which you cannot make it to in time) Base advancement- to run to a base after the ball is hit press the next base your going to run to and the b button.. so if you're on 2nd and want to go to third press left and b. To run back to a base press the direction of the base you came from or want to go back to. So say your going to 3rd and want to go back to 2nd press up and a. Pop fly outs- A lot of players automatically assume their players will run back to the base they were on when a pop fly out occurs. The thing is that the players usually advance so you should have them run back if you think the batter will be out from the pop fly. Out- When a batter has 3 strikes or is tagged out at the base they are running to Double play- When 2 players are out in one session play Triple play- when 3 players are out in one session play, which ends an inning Balls- this is a pitch that isn't on or in the range of the knees or waist area and is considered a miss throw 4 balls end up with the player advancing the base Strikes- this is when the ball is thrown over the home plate or in the strike range having the batter swing and miss Bean ball (dead ball)- When a pitcher throws the ball into the batter causing them to be hit which results in a base advancement Bunting- To bunt the bat tap the a button so much to extend your bat then move the batter towards the ball being pitched. The end result is a player tapping the ball to a direction just in front of the catcher giving a little bit of time to make it to the next base. There is 3 bunting stances... = even / = upwards \ = downwards Each bunting direction will affect the angle of the ball and where it will be hit towards.. If you're a left handed batter then you should try to bunt the ball to the left... Special Thanks: Everyone who helped me make this faq and gamefaqs for making this faq possible to the public.
