| I thought about putting local bands on the same page as other bands I like, but then I decided that giving local bands a page of their own would garner them more (well deserved) attention. If you know of any local bands that you'd like to get the word out on, them send me their name and URL or an e-mail address where people can get more info on them, and I'll post it right here. Even if I don't get a chance to hear them for myself, I'll be happy to help out any local bands (since I use to play in one and I know how hard it is to build a fan base). However, I am not interested in posting info for any band that promotes hate or intolerance. So if you play in, like, a Nazi ska band or something, I'm not interested. Oh, and to all bands featured on this page: please do not be offended by being on a "local band" page. I'm sure some think this label carries negative connotations concerning talent or professionalism, but I'm not implying anything of the sort. For the purposes of this page, "local bands" simply means bands that are geographically based near me. | |||||||||||||
Self Restraint They are super good. Very heavy with Tool-esque vocals. You MUST check these guys out--cool stuff. (Interesting fact--I played keyboard with Eric for like a month or so in a band called Gepeto's Wood, and I played bass/sang in a band with him called The Gymps--although we were only together for one night so I'm not sure if that counts as a band. Oh, and my friend Shae played guitar/sang in that band which brings me to....

Bibowats Shae plays drums in this band. They're undergoing some restructuring right now, so I'm not sure how much info I should give, because I'm not sure how much is set in stone at the moment. But assuming their EP is a good indication of what their sound will continue to be, they're very heavy with beautiful melodies. (Interesting fact--I use to play bass in a band called Elwyn's Cabinet with Shae and we rocked if I may say so myself.) They don't have a website yet, but you can e-mail me for more info for now, since I'm in regular contact with Shae.

Sieze the Day I don't have a web-site URL yet, but for more info you could email me, and I'll contact Ben who plays bass in this band. I haven't had the chance to hear them yet, but from what I understand, they're kinda punkish with humor mixed in. (Interesting fact--I played guitar in an imaginary band with Ben that was called the Watermellon Sundaes. I say "imaginary" because we never actually got together and played, but I did write two songs for us.)

La Makita Soma They're based in Chicago now, but they're roots are in Carbondale, IL. They're a really awesome genera-breaking band. I think they're considered "trance". I don't even really listen to trance, but I think these guys KICK ASS! Don't miss an opportunity to see these guys. They play in Carbondale from time to time. I think they have an LP out, but good luck finding it.
