As the heroes died

This is about the attacks, call it a song, call it a poem, it's just something I wrote until the worst felt right. I just I hope I did all of the events at least half of the justice they deserve.

I took a walk
on outside
thinking about yesterday
how the people cried
and all I could do was
was wactch as the heroes died
I wish there was something more
than that
the darkness fell and no one
no one knew if we'd be alright

Behind two oceans
we can't hide
race or religion
can't divede
no more room
for selfish pride
because we all watched as the heroes died

It lifted up smoke
tall as a mountain
chaotic fear
was what they were counting (on)
anger, confusion, and despair
all emotions felt until
hope sang,
"But our flag was still there."

hard fights and soundbites
heard in cold winter rain
lost ones and dead sons
whose lives weren't in vain
and too early for the question
can we be safe again?

I watched as atop the rubble
men labor through each day
thinking it was done
I turned my eyes away
then out came the rallyman
and to the rallyman the men did say
a word with new meaning for all
"USA, USA, USA, USA"
