Searchriders are those whose dragons (always either greens or blues) have the ability to look at a person and somehow know that they would make a good dragonrider. While many greens and blues have this ability, only a few are skilled enough to do it over and over sucessfully. Some bronzes are able to look at a young woman and tell that she has the qualities to make a good goldrider.

A dragon generally shows an ability at Searching candidates either slightly before or after their graduation - maturity seems to bring the talent into use. A young dragon may attacted to a certain person without knowing why and may be concerned about this reaction. When the pair seeks information or help, they are tested to see if they have the abilities to make an actual Search pair. Any older Search dragon, it seems, can locate the same ability in younger dragons.

There isn't much training in becoming a Searchrider. Indeed, the dragon already knows what to do and only has to be told what is taking place. What the training entails is generally for the rider - how to inform the young person that they can be a Candidate, for example.

Searchriders are not assigned a specific location, for one dragon may be able to spot the 'talent' in a young person where another dragon misses. About two sevendays or so before a Hatching, Searchriders are encouraged to go to the local Holds and Halls and look over the people en masse. It is a Searchrider's perrogative to command a Holder to present all people of the required age - 12 to 18 for "normal" candidates, 16 to 22 for goldrider candidates.

Any person who wishes to hold a Searchrider should email the Board for permission. It should be kept in mind that while Searchriders are not true ranks, if a person asks for a copost in which their persona gets Searched, the Searchrider is required to assist unless on LOA. Failure to respond may result in loosing the rank.
