Physical Description: Although years of swimming have graced her with strong muscles, Korla is on the tall and rather skinny side and most people would see Korla and think of a Holder's child who knew little work in her life. Her one pride is her hair, which is long and as black as between. After a lecture from the Craftmaster, Korla began to braid her hair and keep it tight against her head. The Master had a point, though - loose hair would only get in the way while underwater. Korla's eyes are a deep blue, which were once said to be the same shade of the watchdragon's hide. As this was said by her mother, she never took much comfort in it. Around her neck is a dolphin pendant on a chain. This was a gift when she apprenticed, and she never takes it off.

Korla choses to wear comfortable clothing, generally a pair of brown trousers with a loose tunic. That is not to say she does not own her share of Gather dresses and she makes a stunning figure in the dress that was a gift from her to her. The fabric was blue, a much lighter shade than harper's blue. It hangs just past her knees, with the hem, neck and sleeve lines embroidered with a knot motif. It was the work of many evenings to make, with mother and daughter working together.

On her left arm is a long white scar, an accident from removing a bloodfish from a dolphin. She had put too much force into the cutting, and when the bloodfish was safely removed, the knife continued on its course to slice open the arm. The dolphin, luckily, was not injured.

Personality: Korla is laid back and easy going around everyone. When she knows an answer she will offer it, but is not the type of person to make something up to look good. She is quick to offer a helping hand although does not like to be on the receiving end of such help. Independant is what her mother calls her.

She enjoys being with her friends and tries not to ruin any friendship. Her early childhood was too often spent on ships, moving from one place to another, to make true friends. Korla is neither too talkative nor too shy, which is a quality that many of her peers tend to lack, being too busy boasting about their latest accomplishments.

Background: Her birth and childhood was a normal one for any person born to a family of seacrafters. While she was still of an age to need it, much of Korla's time had to be spent on lessons with the Harper. When she was not studying with him or doing tasks he set his pupils, she was on ships with her parents, helping in whatever way she could.

At the age of twelve, Korla got up the courage to ask her parents for permission to join the Dolphin Craft. For years she had watched the creatures swimming alongside the ship and listened as the dolphineers spoke to the seacrafters about what weather to expect and where to find the best schools of fish. Like many of her peers, her greatest dream was to become a dragonrider - perhaps even a Weyrwoman - and save Pern from Thread. The partnership between a dolphin and his dolphineer was just as good, if not better, than being a dragonrider. After all, you did not risk your life as often!

Her parents agreed, and her apprenticeship began at Tillek Hold's Dolphincraft Hall. It would be nice to say she loved every moment of it, but that would be a lie. Korla loved the fun parts, learning about dolphins and (even better!) swimming with them. The non-fun parts, chores and even more chores, bored her. Yet the turns passed, and she came closer to being paired with a dolphin.

Not long before she was to take the exams that would determine whether or not Korla would become a journeywoman, dragonriders from Fort Weyr came on Search. She was one of the few chosen and it was with her parents delight and happiness that Korla moved into the Weyr. Although she knew in her heart she would not Impress, she could not give up the honor of saying that she had seen a Hatching, that she had been a candidate.

Her heart was wrong. When the hatching came around, Korla was just as anxious and nervous as the other candidates. There was a gold egg in the hatching, and Korla was reminded of her daydream to become the Weyrwoman. But no, when the gold hatched the young Furoth took off straight for a young woman Korla recognized as Renli, who could most often be seen behind a book.

The Hatching was nearly over when a green and blue mottled egg practically burst open to reveal the most perfect green dragon that had ever graced Pern. Her name was Alarath, and she was mightly happy that Korla was there, even if she was dreadfully hungry. Due to the increasing amount of dragons in the Weyr, the leaders of Fort Weyr decided to send the entire class of weyrlings on to Dusk Forest to be raised and trained there.

Dragon Name: Alarath
Age: Weyrling
Riders age at Impression: 17
Color: Green

Dragon Description: Alarath is basically an average green, although Korla privately believes that Alarath is the greatest dragon that ever lived on Pern. Her hide is an evenly colored green. Alarath's mind voice is that of a younger Korla, innocent and trusting of everybody she meets. At the time of her hatching, she was three feet long from tip of nose to end of tail, with a wingspan of about four or five feet.
