Physical Description: Small in build and frame, Katheen has the look of a venerable, delitcate youth. Shes about 56 and has a slim, speedily-built body. She doesnt eat less than anyone else around her, but she hardly ever seems to put on weight and is constantly being told that she needs to flesh out and put some meat on her bones.

Unlike her older brother, her skin is fair and is matched by her long straight brown hair. Her hair runs down to her mid-back and is so pale that it looks like it could have been bleached, even though its naturally that way. She has two tiny plaits that start at her left temple, just in front of her side-parting. In her spare time shell let it down from her work messy bun, as the kinks in her hair never seem to detract from its odd beauty.

Surrounded by her pale hair, her face is small, and although her jaw-line is visible, she doesnt look any older than she is, and yet no one could say shes a child either. Her eyes are large and round, with brilliant harper blue irises and long, if a little thin, eyelashes. Her nose is straight but is generally ignored in favour of her small, delicate lips. When she smiles, all her feelings are shown, and people can really see what shes feeling otherwise they might as well be staring at a brick wall.

Her limbs are quite long, and her hands are extremely fragile-looking, but posses a strength that people dont think capable of such a small figure. She isnt lacking in the bust or rear department, having a reasonable if not large, portion of both. Katheens skin knows no marks or blemishes what so ever, but she will burn easily if outside for too long, and her cheeks blush easily.

Shes usually seen in long, long-sleeved light dresses that when in the moonlight, give her an almost wraith-like appearance. Shell always pick sandals over boots, unless she has to wear them, then she will without complaint.

Personality: Katheens a quiet girl, who mostly keeps her thoughts to herself unless shes asked her opinion. Even then shes somewhat hesitant to give it, especially to someone who she doesnt know well. She could never be considered a loner, as once shes given the opportunity, shell integrate into a group well but she dislikes being a leader or to be loud. Shell follow instructions quickly and often complete them before others do, almost always without complaint. Its this trait which gives people the idea that she can be walked all over.

Its her belief that theres a beauty in every person, be it on the surface or buried deep, deep down inside. She could talk about tunnelsnakes and still find something to admire about them, something which shes done before to make a point. Everyone, in her mind, deserves a chance with which to prove themselves a good person and so it annoys her when Morad scares off people without even getting to know them. She appreciates her brother more than she could say, but even shes of the opinion hes too over-protective of her.

On first meeting, most people find it hard to believe that Katheen isn apprentice Smithcrafter. Then when they find out that it was her brother who urged her into the craft, they blame him for putting her through such an ordeal. Only a few actually pay enough attention to realise that she not only enjoyed the craft, she excelled at it. Of course she didnt have the strength or vivid determination that made a smithcrafter just that. But instead of focusing on the large and heavy things, she found her passion in the more artistic branch of smithcrafting. She was one of the few at her hall who could produce the beautiful metal archways, intricate bracelets and other beautys that Pern enjoyed.

Rarely, someone gets to know her enough to find out that her heart will never lie with a man, but instead a woman. Katheen is completely and utterly homosexual, but so quiet about it that not even her ever-watchful brother knows. While she may tolerate males flirting with her and even embracing her, shes never been able to bring herself to love one. Shes too shy to say no, and so many men think that theyre a couple and even kiss her and such. Unbeknown to anyone, she even lost her virginity on her account of unwillingness to admit the truth but the lack of passion and love was even enough for that male to take the hint.

Her shyness is her main problem with her relationships, and while she may be able to speak naturally to almost anyone she knows well enough, shed _never_ make the first move, and again, shed never say no.

And just like everyone else, she has a temper but its buried within her so deep that it hasnt even shown itself to this day. No amount of teasing or abuse could cause her to snap no matter how harsh and cruel it might be. When she is being attacked, either verbally or physically, she draws in on herself and remains silent for most of the process, and in the latter case, she doesnt respond to anything else either. The only time when she _does_ ever get angry is when she sees somebody she loves being hurt. If the offender is only throwing insults, she will try and defend her loved one in her own quiet way, shifting the attack onto her. In the event that she _did_ see someone she loved being physically hurt, the anger thats been bottled up inside her for so long would be let loose and she would most likely launch herself straight into a fight. Luckily for her, thats never happened before.

Background: Katheen was the last-born daughter in a family of 6, which was quickly cut down to 5 as her mother passed away a few days after her birth. She was given her mothers name as the family resemblance was impossible to miss. Her two oldest sisters were twins, and they generally looked after her and Morad, her brother, until they were old enough to be searched and were whisked away to Igen quickly.

Meanwhile, Katheen grew up under the guidance of her father and protective brother. But when Moflar died, she was taken to the Smith Hall with her brother to train there. Morad and her were officially on their own, although all of the Smith Hall looked out for the pair, and the Journeymen and Masters provided sufficient guidance for the two.

It was there that Katheen met Dain, a fellow apprentice who showed a very keen interest in the girl the moment she arrived. The big dark-haired boy had been careful to keep out of the way of Morad, knowing the young mans protective reputation.

Although it took him a full turn, Dain finally managed to get Katheen at just the right time, cornering her on her way around a gather. He then proceeded to explain his fascination with her, and how much he liked her. Taking her silence for an answer, hed moved in for a kiss and eventually one thing lead to another.

Katheen wasnt really hurt, physically, although she remained very quiet for a few months after the incident. Dain had quickly realised something wasnt right and he even coaxed the girl to tell her what the problem was. Shocked to say the least, he apologized profusely and promised to just be friends. He left the hall in favour of farming not that much later.

A searchrider eventually appeared at the Smith Hall and Katheen and Morad were searched and brought to Dusk Weyrhold.
