Ralph & Me, Directly above Chanel on the Croisette, Cannes France
Keith Sykes introduced me to Ralph at my studio when Keith was visiting and they were going to do some writing. It was too long after that when Ralph moved in with me and stayed for three years. He was a great flat-mate as he was hardly ever there and when he was he always brought smoked pig-necks for the boys. We had some really good times. I created "the Ralph Murphy Room" and never looked back. Ralph is now a V.P. at ASCAP and we made several trips to MIDEM where he introduced me to a ton of people and really helped out my career like he has done so unselfishly for so many people. He wrote his first number one hit in England in 1965. He wrote two other number ones-- "She got You- Ronnie Milsap & Don't take me Half the Way--Chrystal Gayle" as well as having many album cuts. He and Roger Cook were partners at Pick-a-Lick Publishing where they had several number one hits. He was the producer on April Wine among others and worked with Pippen on Broadway. He knows just about EVERYBODY in the music business all over the world and I owe him a lot for being so good to me.
Francs for the memories!.
