Boris Sassman
It was 2:30 A.M. at the Majestic Hotel on the Croisette and right on the beach in Cannes, France. I was sitting in the bar when I heard Deanna Carter call out my name. It was great to see her and running into her in Cannes was that small world thing all over. Deanna was in Cannes for MIDEM and had been in Europe doing her pre-promotion work before her first album was released. She had this really tall long-haired guy with her that was just a little scary looking but after we all sat down, talked for a while, and I got to know him-- he was pretty cool. We all went and did the rose thing out on the beach while the sun was about to come up. Over the next few days, Boris and I would meet up at the Irish stand hang out with our other friends at MIDEM. Boris speaks German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portugese, Swiss German and Japanese and so he has helped me out a great deal with translations. He also was a solo artist whom had done a really cool rock opera for his first release. I invited him over to Nasvhille and He finally came to visit in the winter the next year. When he arrived in Nashville we had a really good snow storm and in Nashville that means that the whole town shuts down. However, I've got the land cruiser that will go through any snow and dodge stranded vehicles by the dozen. We had a blast! He stayed for over a month and when he finally got a taste of the jar, I didn't think he'd ever leave.
