Art Matthews

Art owned the Music Emporium next to the high school where I would spend hours thumbing through records looking for new material to learn and acts to check out.  He has always tried to help Meridian have a better music scene and for that I'm sure that all of us in Meridian are grateful. He booked me to open for Paul Davis, also of Meridian, at the Temple Theater which was the largest venue in Meridian.  At the time, it was a pretty big deal as back then I was only 19 or 20.  Needless to say that was a great night.  Lee Thornton was back stage with me before the show but chickened out and wouldn't introduce me so I just walked onto the stage and said, "Hi, my name is Steve Moore and I came to play..."  A great gig that I will always look back upon with fondness.   I remember lots of good times with Art through the years but don't get to see him as often as I would like now.  He now runs B-93, the local cool radio station, and I'm sure that by the time the record is released will be the first commercial radio to play it.
