DURAFAIN, a Rock band from the sleepy town of Jamestown, NY. Their artistic development has included influences such as  Live, Radiohead, and  Weezer.  Their original material to date would be self-classified as being a shy partner within the genre of modern alternative, seasoned with a dash of fun, passion, and a healthy helping of angst.

The quartet is made up of 4 long time friends who joined forces in 1996, as nothing more than a hobby band with no real intents.  After doinkin' around for awhile doing cover songs of the then popular grunge and hard rock bands (Bush, Radiohead, LIVE, etc.) They recognized their ability to create original music rather easily utilizing an unorthodox method of revolving roles within the band.  Giving in to their various and versatile lead vocals and other instrument trade-offs, thay managed to create a plethora of different sounds.  This gave them a reputation of being 3 bands in one.  As a result of this course of action, they learned much about themselves and their strong points.  This  prompted a gradual restructure, and they have been evolving ever since.

Durafain's recent material reflects this progression.  They've abandoned some of their hard rock roots and adopted a more adolescent, poppy punk rock feel, which they refer to as modern oldies. This has led them down a path that is laden with short 'to-the-point' songs that are equipped with quick catchy beats, hooky high school lyrics, fun fat guitars, and childish antics.

The band has been known to enjoy covering some of their favorite modern rock songs, as well as re-
making some of the older 60's 70's and 80's tunes.  Durafain takes great pride in their approach to music.  Following their preference and acting as a "play by ear" band, they are constantly creating original music by their own rules.  They also painstakingly endeavor to capture their original material using their own amateur recording/mastering studio, 'Spareroom Sound'.  This recording process has been their primary musical focus for some time.

Their efforts have culminated into the January 2003 release of their first full length CD entitled 'Beneath the Surface'.  Copies sold very quickly to numerous local fans, as well as nationally via website distribution.  Current efforts are on the production of their 2nd release, which is anticipated by the band to be "Quite a bit different" from the first, "This one will illustrate our 'progression' very well".

Personal News and Scoops

YIKES!! Haven't updated in like, a year!.  No huge news just yet, except for the fact that band member Matt is soon to be joining the ranks of the paternal ones.  For those of you who are easily confused, that means he's going to be a daddy.  I guess it's pretty obvious what he's been up to.  Not enough band playing methinks, hmmm?  Anyway, recording has been initiated for our new material.  There is enough now for a new full length CD.  We have been working on a different approach to the recording process, which is slowing us down a bit.  We will soon have an upgraded studio with plenty of tunage bouncing off the walls.  Word to your mom.
