Company Meeting
How to
decrease Accident and Injury from traffic
To what extent the
above roles are taken depends on the level of concern of the leader at
each health unit. This denotes the concern of the problem and the urgent need
to manage it.
Since accident injuries are among
the first three major causes of death in all provinces in Thailand, and since a
great number of trauma patients add to the burden of every hospital, it is an
obligation of all public health concerned to advocate prevention of injuries
and death.
The public
health teamwork, has accomplished all of their roles, such
as:
o
Promote
safety by developing a campaign model, producing cutouts, and broadcasting on
radio or other media with a professional teamwork.
o
Take a
leading role in planning developing, implementing, and monitoring injury
prevention, such as in campaigning for the use of helmets, strict banning of
drunk drivers, reduction of festive accidents.
o
Present
important statistics and data via the monthly meeting of accident prevention
committee and via all sorts of mass media.
o
Act as
a major mechanism in managing emergency medical care and in developing an
ever-efficient and standardized system.
o
Advocate
alertness in accident prevention at all levels and opportunities, and among all
organizations.
o
Volunteer
to cooperate in all safety activities, locally and nationwide.
The provincial public health doctor and the director of the hospital are the
key persons who
create and support the secretary team. The members of the team have a very good
understanding of their roles, their obligations, and hence work
enthusiastically
The issue being criticized mostly is
the unit or organization responsible for accident prevention, especially road
injury prevention. For instance, the police are to enforce helmet wearing or
traffic regulations, engineers are responsible for building a safe road, and
teachers are in charge of establishing safety awareness in their pupils' minds.
The frequently asked question is what role do we take and at which point do we
intervene along the injury prevention process
Based
on the data available, this study has provided an estimate of the current road
fatality toll both globally and by region. It has also, shown the weaknesses of
the existing data and the need to put any road casualty estimate into context.
Data on fatalities is more readily available, but it is likely that casualty
information would present a clearer overall picture of how much road crashes
impact on life and the economy. The following points show possible areas that
could be examined within the GRSP programmed so that a greater understanding of
the road crash situation can be obtained.
This study has
attempted to identify the magnitude and nature of the road safety problem
worldwide but particularly in the LMC regions of Africa, Asia/Pacific and Latin
America and the Caribbean. Hopefully the newly formed GRSP can assist to reduce
this global toll of death and injury by the mechanism of partnerships that promote
collaboration and coordination of road safety activities worldwide.
