Spike is a lazy guy, who is only really happy when chasing after a bounty. Not too much hard facts are known about Spike, except that he was born on Mars, belonged to a syndicate, and is 27 years of age.
His love has disappeared and he's desperately trying to find her. He says he hates girls with aditudes, kids, and pets; however, all of them seem to flock to him.
My Interpretation
Okay, my first impression of Spike is that he's a nut case. A cute one too. He's prone to cause mass destruction and the only one who can rival him at that is Cowboy Andy. Spike has one girl that has stolen his heart for life. I think that she vanished that day after he got better from his confrontation with Vicious and the Red Dragon syndicate. He's been searching for her ever since, and that was three years prior to the start of the show.
Getting on with my impression of Spike, This guy does a lot for those people on the Bebop and cares greatly for them, whether he likes to admit it or not. I think the reason behind his hiding of emotions, is that if he feels that way about them, then he's going to want to live and he'll be afraid of dying once again.
As for the last episode, I actually have a good argument for both sides of the coin. Did he live, or did he die? Hmmm...don't know, that's beauty of the ending of the show...
