Jet's a very large guy, with a mechanical left arm. He's 36 years of age. He used to work for the ISSP, but due to a conspiracy inside of th ISSP, he quit. That was 3 years prior to the start of the television show.
My Interpretation
Jet may appear to be rough around the edges, but he's actually a big teddy bear. He cares greatly for those on board the Bebop, and the innocents who get involved in their missions.
His calm nature is a perfect balance to Faye and Spike's not so calm and delicate behavior. Obviously, though, Jet's not very delicate either because he's always butchering his banzai.
Jet I think could be considered the 'father' figure of the group. He may not show too many emotions, but it is obvious that Spike's uncaring attitude really irks him.
