The "Adult Swim" Makes a Big Splash with Cowboy Bebop
Yes, I know it's been several hours since the 2nd airing of the Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, and I realize that most of you are reading this several weeks later; however, I feel that I should write this while it's still fresh on my brain. I was HIGHLY impressed by Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The six shows, which aired from 10:00 pm eastern to 1:00 am eastern, were much more "adult" than I had expected.
The charcters which were depicted in each episode reminded me almost of characters from Monty Python skits. They were playful and goofy. In the shows themselves, were sexual orientaion jokes, sex jokes, cussing, and an overall mature theme. This was much more than I had planned to see on Cartoon Network, which has proclaimed before that they want to keep things so that the channel is family oriented..
The real reason though that I'm writing this, is because of Cowboy Bebop. I had expected it to be hacked to pieces. However, the only thing missing was Spike's favorite word, "shit;" all 'shits' had been changed to 'damns' and the cursing was removed--naturally. I'm anxious to see the double Gren episodes to see how they handle the shower scene. Also the scene in "Waltz for Venus," where Faye walks in on two men having sex.
As soon as these air I'll write more on this subject, but just imagine . . . if this does well, perhaps Cartoon Network will pick up other animes with more "mature" themes in them.
