Welcome to the 3rd
Denver International Organ Symposium (DIOS)
During the first week of February 2004 the University of Denver and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception hosted the first Denver International Organ Symposium (DIOS). Cathedral Organist and DU organ faculty Dr. Horst Buchholz is the founder and director of DIOS. The idea of DIOS is to invite international organists and teachers for one week of masterclasses, discussions, and excursions to significant organs in the Denver area. Active participation is very limited to create an intensive study situation, but the masterclasses are open to the public, as well as the opening and closing concerts.
In 2008 Horst Buchholz will be joined by Dr. Wolfgang Stockmeier, world-reknown concert organist and Professor Emeritus from Cologne, Germany. Stockmeier is also a celebrated composer and scholar who has published numerous organ works and written several book and scholarly articles.   His concert tours with over 3,000 recitals have literally taken him around the world.  He had his Colorado debut at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, but this time he can be heard on the  W. K. Coors Organ by Karl Schuke in DU's Hamilton Recital Hall. - Stockmeier will play the opening recital on February 10, 2008, at 3:00pm, and also give a masterclass  for DIOS participants. - Another masterclass will be taught by Dr. Horst Buchholz.

Active participants will have a chance to perform in the final recital on Saturday, February 16, 2008, on the Schuke organ in Hamilton Hall at the University of Denver
Four of the 2004 participants were heard in the closing public concert at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, on Sunday, February. The program included works by J. Bach, C. Franck, F. Mendelssohn and J. Jongen.
