Born in Oporto, he granted a scholarship from the Portuguese Ministery of Culture to study in Paris at the "Ecole Normale de Musique" and at the Conservatoire, where he obtained his final degrees in flute, pedagogy and chamber music. Disciple of Christian Cheret, Vicenz Prats and Jean Ferrandis, he also attended Masterclasses given by many world famous flutists. He was first flute of several Portuguese orchestras and made various recordings for the Portuguese, French, Greek and Hungarian radio and television broadcasts. He has built a solid career as a guest soloist of several international festivals and orchestras, performing solo and chamber music concerts in most European countries. He was soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Oporto, Camerata of Oporto, Szczecin Philharmonic, Silesian Chamber Orchestra and Macedonian Philarmonic, among others. He gave first performance of several works which were dedicated to him by well-known Portuguese composers. He recorded five CDs , three with his wife, the pianist Maria Jose Souza Guedes and anothe two, with Portuguese contemporary music for solo flute anf flute and piano, wich received high praises from the press. He has given several Masterclasses in Portugal, Hungary (Liszt Academy of Debrecen), Greece (Tessaloniki Conservatoire and Vertiskos Summer Courses), in Russia (Academic College of the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire - Moskow) and in the Inter-Fest of Bitola, in Macedonia.
