Shinigami or "The God of Death" has the most known about his past. Duo's parents were killed in the war and he was taken in by the Maxwell church. His hair was braided by his favorite nun who worked in the Maxwell Church. When people ask about his hairstyle he replys, "It made it easier to steal."

The priest helped Duo clean up his act. This is most likely why he wear clothes that look like minister clothing.

War came back to the colonies and the soldiers killed eveyone in the church while Duo was away getting a mobile suit for them. His favorite nun was dying and told him that the priest was still thinking of him until the very end. This was when Duo started calling himself Shinigami because his parents were killed and now his new family that had graciously taken him in had been killed too and he wanted revenge.

Professor G found him and liked Duo, so he made him the Deathscythe because of Duo's miraculous piloting skills. When the Deathscythe got caputured, Professor G made Duo a new, customized Gundam called Deathscythe Hell.
