WORTH FIGHTING FOR
Chapter 12 – Same Old Boys
Heero felt his breath catch as he heard the key in the lock turn and Duo stood with his back facing Heero. He stayed that way.
“Are you hurt?” Duo asked, his
voice slightly muffed.
“No.”
Duo turned around, his eyes searched
Heero.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered.
“You have no need…”
“I…”
They both fell silent.
A large wide gap of three years
full of regret, pain and hurt stood between them.
“I’m sorry.” Duo whispered again
as his knees gave way and he slide down the door to the floor. “It’s all my
fault.”
“You could say that.” Heero
snapped.
Duo looked up, his own anger
flaring.
“I didn’t mean for it to
happen.”
“You are the reason I was
kidnapped.”
“I didn’t know he would kidnap
you did I?”
“Yeah, typical Maxwell, always
think about number one.”
“Hey Yuy, you are forgetting
that I’m the one risking my life to save your ass.”
“So? You feeling guilty about
putting me in this situation, so you are saving my ass to make yourself feel
better.”
Duo stood up. “AH, you know
nothing!” He yelled storming forward.
“I could say the same about you.
Only you can be stupid enough to get in these sorts of messes.”
“Like you had nothing to do with
it.”
“None of this would of happened
if you hadn’t ran away! None of this would have happened if you hadn’t turned
away and ran off with your tail between your legs! You just up and left because
at the time it suited you, you didn’t stop to think who you might hurt by
leaving!” Heero snapped, the real reason for his anger sprung up.
Duo paused and looked away from
the cold fires of Heero’s eyes.
“I did it for a reason.”
“Because you were too scared to
stay and fight your father.”
“I had no choice, I had to
leave.”
“I could have gone with you!”
“You had a family left, I
didn’t. I wasn’t going to take that from you!”
“So you chose to rip my heart
out instead? How noble of you! I would have given everything up for you; all
you had to do was ask. But instead you thought about yourself and no one else,
almost like everything we had gone through hadn’t mattered to you!” Heero said
lowing his voice and reaching out to touch Duo. “You gave me something new, you
made me feel so good and you took that away, you nearly destroyed me!”
Duo pulled away.
“Don’t.”
“DAMN IT DUO!” Heero yelled. “I
LOVED YOU! I still do.”
Duo spun round and reached for
Heero, their hands touched and electricity flowed through them. Duo pulled
Heero into a hug, tucking his head in the crock of Heero’s neck.
Heero raised his arms and put
them around Duo, aware of the rope and metal chaining him. Duo’s hands went
round his waist and they held each other, the simple touch burning away the
anger between them.
“I’ll get you away from him.”
Duo promised. “I’m so sorry for everything.”
“Don’t apologise.” Heero ordered
him and Duo lifted his head from Heero’s neck.
“If we get out alive, you wanna
go out sometime?” Duo said with a wink.
Heero gave a small chuckle. “I’d
love to.”
“I love you, together forever?”
“Longer than forever, I love you
too.”
Heero bent his head, his lips
touching Duo’s oh so softly.
Heero was the first to pull
back.
“I’ll get you out Heero, I swear
on my life.”
“I know you will. I trust you
Duo, with my body, my soul and my heart.”
Duo held Heero again, his breath
warm on Heero’s neck.
“I don’t wanna let you go back
to him.” Duo whimpered hugging Heero tighter, need to contact as his emotions
threatened to sweep him.
“I have too.” Heero said, his
hands clutching at Duo’s braid like a lifeline.
There was a sharp rapping noise
at the door.
“Our time is up.” Duo said
glancing at his watch. He moved away from Heero and reached up to unclasp his
cross from his neck, Heero watched him re-clasped it around his own neck and
Heero closed his eyes as he felt the reassuring familiar weight of the silver
cross around his neck.
“Be safe.”
“You too.”
Duo rested his hand against
Heero’s cheek and lent in, he pressed his lips firmly against Heero’s before
quickly pulling back and unlocking the door.
Duo walked out with Heero
following.
Devalin then took Heero and
left.
As soon as the lift shut, forcing
Heero from Duo’s sight, Duo collapsed to the floor, and gave a dry heavy sob.
Quatre knelt down be side him
and held him as he cried dry tears.
The Yuy Family held themselves
and took comfort from each other.
Trowa and Wufei turned away and
Mike watched it all with a heavy heart.
“Devalin.” Mike
thought, “You have a lot to answer for. And I’m gonna make sure you do.”
