WORTH FIGHTING FOR
AN/ I made a mistake in Holiday From Hell, I said Duo’s cross
was Gold when I meant it to be Silver. Sorry about that. Sorry but there are
two short chapters coming up, soon as I have these finish I’ll get to the
longer ones.
Heero tried
to keep his temper in check as he was pulled along roughly by one of Devalin’s
men. He was chained up tightly; his feet bound together by a metal chain barely
half a meter and his hands were chained tightly with handcuffs that were
attached to a long piece of rope that attached him to the guard.
Slowly
Heero allowed himself to be pulled out of the train station and up the steps.
His eyes widen as he recognised the building in front of him, it was the
Preventers Headquarters.
The guard tugged his rope hard, causing Heero to stumbled.
Pissed at the way he was being treated like a dog, Heero reached forward and grabbed the rope and he gave it a sharp vindictive tug and the guard holding it went flying backwards, landing on his back and his head cracked against the pavement.
Devalin spun round, his eyes
glared at the man on the ground with Heero standing over him. Heero shrugged at
Devalin before kicking the guard hard in the groin. The man rolled over,
curling up into a ball, groaning in pain. Heero smirked.
“ENOUGH!” Devalin snapped. He
ripped the rope off the man laying on the floor and he pulled Heero to him and
dragged him into the building.
“I have an appointment with the
SPU.”
“I’m sorry sir, no one is
allowed to see them without Lady Une’s permission.”
“Listen to me…”
“Devalin.”
Devalin and Heero looked round
to see a Chinese man standing there.
“Preventer Shenlong.” Devalin
purred and Wufei glared.
“If you wish to speak to us, all
weapons must be left at this desk.”
“Surely I don’t need to do that,
after all with me unarmed who says you can’t just point a gun at me and demand
that I let Heero go?”
The lift behind Wufei opened and
Duo stepped out from it, a look of shock flicked across his face as he saw
Devalin and Heero.
“What are you doing here?” He
snarled.
“Preventer Deathscythe, they said
they had an appointment with you.” The man behind the reception desk said.
“I’ve come to give you details
on your tasks but Preventer Shenlong thinks I will just hand my guns over and
let me into your office so you can arrest me and take Heero back.”
“Tell me what the details are,
then you can leave.”
“In private, Deathscythe.” He
purred and Duo growled.
The Yuys were upstairs and he
didn’t want them to see their son like this.
“If you can’t tell me, then it’s
not important.”
Duo was about to stroll forward
when he heard the soft click of a gun. His eyes flashed hells fire at Devalin
who smiled sweetly, his gun pressed almost lazily against the side of Heero’s
head.
“I want to go upstairs to chat.”
He whispered but they heard every word. “And if I don’t get what I want. Bang.”
Duo’s hand itched to reach for
his own gun, the same gun that he had used to kill Devalin’s brother.
“If you kill him,” Wufei pointed
out. “You will lose your bargain price and you will not get out of this
building alive.”
“I wouldn’t need to.” Devalin
purred. “I would of have my revenge, I would have been able to watch, Duo,” He
used his real name on purpose, “watch his lover die.”
Duo growled and stepped
aside-allowing access to the lift.
“Get in.” He ordered and Devalin
smirked.
“I want your word you wont
arrest me or try and save Heero while we are up there.” He didn’t move; just
tighten his grip on Heero.
“You have it.” Duo hissed, “None
of my team will harm you. You have safe passage.”
“See, that wasn’t too hard was
it.” Devalin laughed as he walked Heero into the lift, Duo followed swiftly with
Wufei on his heel.
“Are you sure this is a good
idea?” Wufei whispered in Duo’s ear.
“We have no choice.” Duo replied
as the lift door swung shut.
Duo lent across Devalin and key
in the code that was needed for the lift to take them up to the SPU level. As
he did so a soft hand gently touched his arm and a pair of prussian eyes glowed
at him full of warmth, trust and love, and Duo pulled away, his heart racing
and his mouth suddenly dry. The lift began its slow movement up towards the top
level.
“I’ve never been in here
before.” Devalin said, his eyes fixed on Duo’s. “It’s awfully neat isn’t it?”
“We could get you a permanent
home here for you, if you would like one?” Wufei sneered.
“Really?
How?” Devalin asked, a smile large on his face.
“There are cells in the basement
for criminals.” Duo informed Devalin who’s smile faded quickly into a snarl.
“Then Preventer Deathscythe
should be in them, he is after all a murderer.”
Duo looked away, casting his
eyes downwards.
“You don’t deny it.” Devalin
hissed. “KILLER!”
Duo ignored it as the lift came
to a stop and the doors slide open and Duo stepped out into his office.
Everyone it in turned sharply, their eyes fixed on Devalin and Heero, their
expressions all matched, it was one of shock and horror.
“HEERO!” April gave a sob as she
saw her son and was about to run forward when Trowa caught her arm.
“What’s he doing here?”
“Devalin wants a word.” Duo
replied moving towards Odin. “I gave him and Heero safe passage here.”
“In return for?” Mike asked, his
hand stilled its movements towards his gun.
“Heero’s life.”
Duo lent back against his desk
as Devalin pulled his gun out.
“Get to business, so we can get
you out of here. I don’t like having trash in my office.” Mike said, he too
lent back against Duo’s desk, but both him and Duo were tensed up, their bodies
ready to move into action at the slightest threat.
“Play nice.”
Quatre pulled away and backed
himself against Trowa, wanting to feel his lover and took comfort from the
solid form. The distress he could feel coming from Duo was too strong for him
to block out and the way Heero was feeling wasn’t helping.
“Heavyarms remove him.” Wufei
ordered Trowa.
“I wanna stay.” Quatre
whispered.
“Let him, he needs it.”
“DEVALIN you came up here for a
reason, now get to it.”
“I brought you this.” Devalin
threw a piece of paper down on a nearby desk and Mike picked it up.
“Why not send it in the post?”
“Wouldn’t of been as much fun.”
Mike handed the letter to Duo
who read it quickly.
“That’s it?” Duo snarled.
“Yes.”
Duo grabbed his gun.
“DUO!” Wufei grabbed his arm and
stopped him.
“A deal, I’ll give you safe
passage out of here, if you give me five minutes with Heero alone.”
Devalin paused. “What?”
“You heard me.” Duo said, his
voice waving. “I will be at Regenace Hall tomorrow at midday. I’m following
your demands, but now I’m making a few of mine own. I decide now if you leave
this room or not. I like to fight fair, I’ll let you go, with Heero, if you
give me and him five minutes alone. You have no choice in the matter if you want
to leave here ever again.”
Devalin shrugged.
“Very well. I am counting
Maxwell.”
He held out the rope attached to
Heero and Duo took them, his hand shaking and he lead Heero into the interview
room, shutting and locking the door behind him.
They were alone.
