Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow 1/5

ACT ONE

In an English Class you have a room lay out. At the front you have the students who like Shakespeare and wish to show off to everyone how good they are at Shakespeare. In the middle of the room you have the students who half listen but their books are covered in pictures from doodles they have done when being bored to death, occasionally one of these students will give the teacher an answer but not every single lesson. Then you have the very back row, ah the best row. Most teachers dont bother to try and teach this lot but then every now and then a teacher will try and most of the time fail. At the back a student can do anything really, including getting off with your boyfriend, reading doujinish, or in my case writing fics (1).
Anyway this Monday found our favourite boys sweating in a stuffy classroom. Poor things. It was yet again another school. The boys had been there for over a month now and were ready to more on and had been hoping to until Heero was sent a message with news from J that they werent needed at the moment therefore they might as well stay where they were. Understand that? Good.
There was nothing that could ruin the boys moods. Quatre and Trowa were huddling together near the back. Wufei was sitting up at the front waiting for the teacher to arrive (2). Heero was sitting in the middle of the room staring at the front of the room ignoring the crowd of girls that surrounded him and Duo was sitting, hidden at the back of the room. His Romeo and Juliet book was already open and he was reading quietly um yeah right! Duo? Reading? Not very likely so Ill tell you the truth. Duo sat at the back of the room in the furthest corner from the teachers desk and had his head stuck in between the pages of Romeo and Juliet, which held an old copy of a doujinish, in which two blokes were sucking each other off. Duo gave an almost wishful sigh and looked up pass the pages to stare for a few seconds at the back of his partners head before returning his attention back to the doujinish.
The door to the classroom opened which sent everyone running to their places. The teacher, Miss Durrent (3) walked in and behind her trailed a pink girl that sent Heero into hiding.
Morning class. We have a treat this week, Relena Dorlian will be joining our school for this week only and will be holding peace talks for those who wish to hear more about Pacifism.
All the gundam pilots, minus Heero who was trying to hid behind his small copy of Romeo and Juliet stared in shock at Relena who stood at the front of the class smiling round at everyone. Heero cursed Duo for taking away his gun when he threaten to kill a cat that tried to bit him, Duo, for some reason had never given it back and Heero made a mental note to pay a visit to his partners room that night to retrieve his gun and kill a certain blond princess.
Please Relena sit next to Heero will you?
Heero? Relena asked and she looked to the student Miss Durrent was pointing out. Duo and Quatre exchanged a glance and placed their hands over their ears in time as Relena suddenly screamed, HEERO!
The whole class winced and Heero Yuy blushed, yes BLUSHED as everyone looked at him. Relena hurried over and sat down in the empty sit beside Heero and grabbed his arm.
I knew I would find you. Can I share your book please Heero?
And hence the lesson begun.
Double English was bad enough but by the end of the first period Duo was ready to storm over to Relena and force her away from *his* Heero. Of course Heero didnt know that he was Duos or that Duo was his but that was beside the point.
Meanwhile Heero was sitting there wishing he could be alone with his braided partner right at that moment in time so he could finally make the boy his.
Two thoughts both the same and neither knowing the other felt the same way.
Miss Durrents interrupted both boys thoughts and Heero turned to listen while Duo turned back to reading another doujinish that he pulled from his black school bag.
The teacher made them clear a space in the middle of the room and the class sat round the space on chairs and table. Duo stayed huddled in the corner.
We need a, Capulet, a Juliet, a Romeo, another Capulet, two servants, Tybalt, Nurse, and a Benvolio. Miss Durrents blue eyes scanned the room. James you be a servant, and you too Liam. Matt you play Capulet and Ill be the other Capulet. Jessie you play Nurse and Wufei you be Tybalt. Quatre can play Benvolio. Relena will be Juliet and Heero can play Romeo.
Everyone stood and waiting in a line by the whiteboard, well nearly everyone. Heero was shooting daggers at Miss Durrent.
Im not playing Romeo.
Come on Heero itll be fun. Quatre smiled at the Wing pilot but Heero glared him down.
No.
Why not?
Heero looked at Relena and then back at Quatre.
Ah. Miss Durrent, Relena is new to this class, maybe it is a bad idea to make her perform on her first day.
Miss Durrent nodded at Quatre and asked Relena to sit down. Relena looked a little disappointed but sat down any way. Heero stood up and joined Quatre while Miss Durrent scanned the room again; her eyes came to rest of the braided boy in the corner who was paying no attention to the lesson what so ever.
Duo can play Juliet. She snapped out. Duo jumped in his seat and quickly, with ease born of hiding hid the doujinish. He glazed innocently at the teacher who pointed at the floor.
You can play Juliet.
But you want us to act right? I cant kiss Heero. Duo protested.
Youve kissed a boy before Duo.
Duo had already been out on dates with half the boys in the year. He had slept with a few of them too but nothing serious just enough to make him stop thinking about Heero, for a while any way. He had seen a few girls as well and everyone knew that Duo Maxwell was bi (4). Heero knew but he doubted that Duo would ever go for someone like himself; he didnt know how wrong he was.
Duo shrugged his shoulders and headed out on to the floor.
What page we on Miss? He asked and Miss Durrent rolled her eyes.
Act 1, Scene 5. Page 32. Go.

James and Liam walked on stage, quietly talking.
Where's Potpan, that he helps not to take away? He shift a trencher? He scrape a trencher!
Liams head nodded. When good manners shall lie all in one or two men's hands and they unwashed too, 'tis a foul thing.
Away with the joint-stools, remove the court-cupboard, look to the plate. Good thou, save
me a piece of marchpane; and, as thou lovest me, let the porter let in Susan Grindstone and Nell. Antony, and Potpan!
Ay, boy, ready. Liam replied.
You are looked for and called for, asked for and sought for, in the great chamber.
We cannot be here and there too. Cheerly, boys; be brisk awhile, and the longer liver take all.
Matt and Duo walked on and Liam and James moved to the side.
Welcome, gentlemen! Ladies that have their toes unplagued with corns will have a bout with you.
Ah ha, my mistresses! Which of you all will now deny to dance? She that makes dainty,
She, I'll swear, hath corns; am I come near ye now? Welcome, gentlemen! I have seen the day
That I have worn a visor and could tell a whispering tale in a fair lady's ear, such as would please: 'tis gone, 'tis gone, 'tis gone: You are welcome, gentlemen! Come, musicians, play. A hall, a hall! Give room! And foot it, girls. Matt spread his arms wide and all but shouted his lines to the room.
More light, you knaves; and turn the tables up, and quench the fire, the room is grown too hot. Ah, sirrah, this unlook'd-for sport comes well. Nay, sit, nay, sit, good cousin Capulet; for you and I are past our dancing days: How long is't now since last yourself and I Were in a mask?
Miss Durrents voice came from offstage. By'r lady, thirty years.
What, man! 'tis not so much, 'tis not so much: 'Tis since the nuptials of Lucentio, Come pentecost as quickly as it will, Some five and twenty years; and then we mask'd.
'Tis more, 'tis more, his son is elder, sir; His son is thirty. Miss Durrent called again.
Will you tell me that? His son was but a ward two years ago. Matt moved to the side and Heero entered. James walked to him and Heero took a deep breath aware that the whole class including Relena was watching him.
What lady is that, which doth enrich the hand of yonder knight? He spoke softly, his voice changed from the normally flat emotionless to a more soft well-spoken voice of a gentleman. From the side lines Duo felt himself fall even more for Heero!
I know not sir.
Heero stepped forward again, his eyes locked briefly with Duos before he turned to read his words.
O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear;
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows,
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand,
And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night. (5)
Wufei cleared his throat making the class laugh and he glared at everyone.
This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares the slave come hither, cover'd with an antic face, To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honour of my kin, to strike him dead, I hold it not a sin.
Matt placed a hand on Wufeis arm. Why, how now, kinsman! Wherefore storm you so?
Wufei pointed at Heero.
Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe, A villain that is hither come in spite, To scorn at our solemnity this night.
Young Romeo is it?
'Tis he, that villain Romeo. Wufei spat.
Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone; He bears him like a portly gentleman; And, to say truth, Verona brags of him To be a virtuous and well-govern'd youth: I would not for the wealth of all the town Here in my house do him disparagement: Therefore be patient, take no note of him: It is my will, the which if thou respect, Show a fair presence and put off these frowns, And ill-beseeming semblance for a feast.
Wufeis eyes flashed and Duo couldnt help but think Wufei was getting into his role a bit too well. But then Duo was getting nervous, A) He didnt like acting and B) He had to kiss his crush in front of everyone. Not a good thing.
It fits, when such a villain is a guest: I'll not endure him.
Matt shock his head and read his lines in an angry voice. He shall be endured: What, Goodman boy! I say, he shall: go to; Am I the master here, or you? go to. You'll not endure him! God shall mend my soul! You'll make a mutiny among my guests! You will set cock-a-hoop! Youll be the man!
Wufei glared at Matt. Why, uncle, 'tis a shame.
Go to, go to; you are a saucy boy: is't so, indeed? This trick may chance to scathe you, I know what: You must contrary me! Marry, 'tis time. Well said, my hearts! You are a princox; go: Be quiet, or--More light, more light! For shame! I'll make you quiet. What, cheerly, my hearts!
Patience perforce with willful choler meeting makes my flesh tremble in their different greeting. I will withdraw: but this intrusion shall now seeming sweet convert to bitter gall. Wufei hissed and him and Matt walked off.
Duo gulped and stepped up to Heero. They stood facing each other and Heero felt his mouth go dry. Heero reached out and took Duos right hand in his.
If I profane with my unworthiest hand. This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this: My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand. To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
Duo blushed. Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which mannerly devotion shows in this; For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch, And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.
Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?
Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer. Duo said, he gazes at the book not wanting to met Heeros eyes in case he let something slip.
O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do; They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.
Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.
Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take. Thus from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.
Heero took a deep breath, in truth told he had never kissed anyone before, yet along a boy and he looked at Duo unsure of what to do.
Duo nearly smirked at the look on Heeros face but there was still the fact he had to kiss Heero. He saw Heero move, his head lowered slowly to Duos and then the slightest touch. Lips brushed lips for a second before Heero pulled back.
Duo had frozen in his place, little Chibi-Duos were running away inside Duos head screaming, Heero kissed me! Heero kissed me! Heero kissed me!
Duo?
Huh? Duo shock his head and tried to turn his thoughts back to the text.
Then have my lips the sin that they have took.
Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again. Heero leaned forward again, his lips pressed to Duos and Duo kissed back. For both boys time stood still until Heero finally withdrew, a small smile passed over his lips quickly.
You kiss by the book (6). Duo pointed out. Jessie stepped forward and was about to say her lines when Duo burst into laughter. The rest of the class looked at Duo and then Heero. A single eyebrow raised on Heeros forehead asking Duo silently what was so funny? Duo just shock his head and tried to calm himself down. Relena was heard muttering.
I wouldnt have laughed.
Duo pulled himself quickly together at Relenas words. HE was better than HER and he would do this properly!
Madam, your mother craves a word with you. Jessie continued swiftly.
What is her mother? Heero asked.
Marry, bachelor, Her mother is the lady of the house, And a good lady, and a wise and virtuous I nursed her daughter, that you talk'd withal; I tell you, he that can lay hold of her. Shall have the chinks.
Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foe's debt. Heero stepped back away from Duo and Jessie. Quatre spoke from his side.
Away, begone; the sport is at the best.
Ay, so I fear; the more is my unrest.
Matt stepped into the middle of the room. Nay, gentlemen, prepare not to be gone; We have a trifling foolish banquet towards. Is it e'en so? why, then, I thank you all I thank you, honest gentlemen; good night. More torches here! Come on then, let's to bed. Ah, sirrah, by my fay, it waxes late: I'll to my rest. Everyone sat down part from Jessie and Duo.
Come hither, nurse. What is yond gentleman? Duo asked.
The son and heir of old Tiberio.
What's he that now is going out of door?
Marry, that, I think, be young Petrucio.
What's he that follows there, that would not dance?
I know not.
Go ask his name: if he be married. My grave is like to be my wedding bed.
His name is Romeo, and a Montague; The only son of your great enemy.
My only love sprung from my only hate!
Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
Prodigious birth of love it is to me,
that I must love a loathed enemy. (7)
What's this? Whats this?
A rhyme I learn'd even now of one I danced withal.
And Jessie finished the scene with a Anon, anon! Come, let's away; the strangers all are gone.
The whole class cheered as the actors sat down.
Quiet! Miss Durrent yelled over the noise. At the sound of the bell ringing shut everyone up. Desk back in their right places and you all sitting in your seats, I have to give you homework! Quickly the class re arranged everything and sat down quietly. Homework is to find a partner and read Act 2, Scene 2 (8). Ill being picking on a pair tomorrow to act it out for us! Dismissed.
Duo stood up quickly from his seat and he hurried from the English room really wanting to bury his face in his pillow and spend the rest of the time at this school in bed.
Heero sow Duo race from the room and wondered why the Deathscythe pilot was in such a rush, he was about to give chase when Relena threw herself in front of him.
HEE~RO! Heero winced and glared at the girl.
What?
Can I be your partner? Ill be far better than *That* boy and I wouldnt laugh.
Heero glared even harder at Relena who didnt seem to notice the threat of Death.
Please Heero?
No. Heero pushed pass Relena and headed off to find Duo.

Heero didnt see Duo until lunchtime. He had a dreaded feeling that Duo hated him and he had some how managed to ruin the one thing that was going right in his life. But he soon realized he was wrong. Duo was sitting with Quatre, Trowa and Wufei laughing about something. Wufei seemed to be blushing a bright red. He headed over and sat down next to Duo. Duo turned to him.
Hay Hee-Chan!
Hn.
Nice. Look I dont suppose you could lend me some food could you? (9) Duo eyed the lunch that Heero had just placed on the table.
Lend?
Yeah, Ill give it back to you tomorrow. Duo nodded his head enthusiastically.
How?
You can have some of my lunch tomorrow.
Give it up Maxwell, you arent getting any more food. Heero almost laughed as Duo slumped back in his chair and cross his arms. He eyed his own food and handed half a sandwich over to Duo.
Really?
Duo sat straight up in his chair, his violet eyes shimming with joy. Heero nodded and laid it in front of Duo on Duos empty lunch tray. Slowly Duo picked it up and eat it, almost savoring the taste. After all it had been given to him by Heero!
Can I sit here please?
Heero, Duo, Trowa and Wufei all groaned as Relena sat down on the other side of Heero.
How do you like the school Miss Relena? Quatre asked.
Oh its great. Im loving it here. Its even better then the other schools Ive been too.
I wonder why? Duo muttered still eating Heeros sandwich but was now also sharing the bag of crisp Heero had laid on the table between them.
Relena looked across at Duo and then smiled at Heero.
Have you all got partners for English? She asked.
Me and Quatre are going together. Trowa said simply and then fell silent again.
Wufeis with Estelle (10)! Duo teased across the table. Wufei sent Duo a death glare and Duo returned it by sticking his tongue out at Wufei. Quatre laughed.
Relena rolled her eyes at the behavior of the two boys.
Who are you with Miss Relena?
Why Heero of course! She purred.
Nani? Duo stared round shocked.
When? Heero also seemed to be in shock.
I dont think Miss Relena. Duo growled.
Oh I do. Right Heero?
Heero shook his head.
Why not?
Um
Duo leaned forward, his arms draped across Heeros body and his chest pressed against Heeros hard shoulder.
Hes with me.
Relena stared at Duo then Heero.
Is this true?
Yes. Heero said, he slid an arm round Duos waist adding to the effect.
Fine. She stood up and walked away, glaring back at the two boys locked in each others embrace.
Heero could feel the heat pouring off Duo and Duo could feel the small shivers that kept running along Heeros frame.
Quatre, Trowa and Wufei stared shell shocked at Heero and Duo. Duo removed his arms from Heero but found that losing the arm round his waist was a hard matter. Heero didnt seem to want to let go. Duo rested his hand against Heeros muscular chest and finished his lunch thinking, what the hell have I got myself into?
