Chapter Seven: Grades, cysts and pens. Oh my!
Weeks passed by with not much change for the friends. The only big deal that anyone really cared about was when progress reports came out. Once again, they met in a corner and evaluated their own as well as each others progress reports. No surprises were found in their grades. Just like usual, they all had straight As or A-s. Oh wow, Im so excited about my grades! I mean look: straight As just like always! Allison said with mock excitement. Oh I know the same with me! Sam countered just as excitedly. The guys just looked on laughing. The girls joined in realizing how stupid their antics must have looked to Brian and Jared. Several people walked by raising their eyebrows or rolling their eyes. This only gave Allison reason to laugh harder. They soon all departed towards the middle school for Math Olympiad when Brian thought of something. Hey guys, he said stopping suddenly, Today is the last day that we have these schedules. That means that we might not have the same classes, right? The others nodded expectantly, knowing that the wheels were turning way back in his head. So next trimester we might possibly have all of our classes together, right? Once again, Jared and the girls nodded except sarcastically this time. Okay, thats all, He concluded. Thats all?! Nothing else to say? No scientific formulae, math equations, random pieces of info from Social Studies?! Sam was surprised. Hey, Im the one with random info from History! Allison exclaimed. Oops, sorry about that. That day during Math Olympiad, something extremely interesting happened. As everyone was being stupid, Sam said that she had a sixth finger. The people at here table and nearby ones were suddenly interested. You have a sixth finger?! Where? Show us! Jared grabbed her hand to show them but then he touched the sixth finger. (which really was only a cyst) Allison learned from Sam later that after he touched it, it went completely numb. When Sam gave Allison her account of the story, Allison was intrigued, but also couldnt resist teasing Sam just a little. Oh, Sam! Its so romantic! He touched your cyst and you couldnt feel it! Hes got the magic touch! That is pretty weird though. They went over some of the other random things that had happened during band when they were doing their playing tests. Jared had forgotten his alto saxophone and his parents couldnt bring it for him so he just played fingerings on a pen. Then, after playing tests had been completed and they were sight reading, Jared had disassembled the pen and was putting it back together when the actual pen went flying up in a high arch and landed on the stand of the clarinets in front of Jared and Allison. Luckily, just as the pen went flying, Dr. G. had turned to tell off some flutes for goofing around so he didnt see the pen go flying in its unmeant but still graceful arch.
