Bordalen Siblings Kari Olavsdatter Bordalen Aanne Olavsdatter Notodden Jarngruva Ivar Oleson Bordalen notes Olav was married twice first to Gunnhild and then to Liv. They were both daughters of Olav Saamundson Forness in Mosstrond. They had school only every 8th day. Thad to go to school until they had passed 20 years of age. He drove a team of reindeer instead of horses. He was the first person to live in the Vinje mountains year around. Olav immigrated to the U.S. in 1852 His son was killed in the Civil War and "Uncle Sam" paid Olav 12 dollars a month pension because he depended on him for support. The town of Fountain, Juneau, WI, census from 1900 states that he immigrated in 1868, and possibly went by the name of Severson. When Olav was 10, there was a severe famine in Norway. People ate moss and Elm bark to sustain life. |
