THESE HOUSE RULES ARE PART OF YOUR RENTAL AGREEMENT.
For your convenience, we will have a copy of this and all other information on this website available for you at the cottage.
RATES: Our 2009 weekly rate is $650.00. These amounts are subject to the 9 percent Vermont Rooms and Meals Tax. RESERVATIONS: All reservations are from Saturday to Saturday unless other arrangements are made. Check-in after 2:00pm, check-out by 10:00am Saturday morning. We ask that you notify us if you will be arriving after 4:00pm on Saturday afternoon. DEPOSIT/CANCELLATION: A 50 percent deposit is required when a reservation is made. The balance is due upon arrival. If it is necessary to cancel, the deposit will be refunded, less a $25 service charge, if the cottage is re-rented for the same period. SMOKING: Absolutely no smoking in the cottage or on the porch. If someone does smoke outside, please dispose of butts properly. WOODSTOVE: The woodstove is an antique. Please admire its craftsmanship but do not use it. IT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND WOULD BE DANGEROUS IF USED. YOU MUST NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, LIGHT IT. The eastern side of the lake is generally blessed with cool evening breezes coming down off the mountains, which make summer sleeping comfortable. However, if you are chilled, we have additional blankets and comforters available. Please ask. GAS STOVE: The gas stove has a pilot light and the burners should light when you turn them on. However, the oven must be lighted prior to use. There is a lighter on the windowsill near the stove for this purpose. If you have any questions, we will be happy to demonstrate. OUTDOOR GRILLS: Both grills must be used outside ONLY. The charcoal grill supplies are located in the nearby galvanized container. The gas grill requires the lighter to start. Please do not allow children to have access to these items and please exercise caution when lighting either of the grills. FIRE EXTINGUISHER: A class A/B/C multipurpose fire extinguisher is located under the kitchen sink. A smoke alarm is located to the left of the woodstove. An exterior water hose is located out front. We are serviced by a volunteer fire department that is based far enough away to be of little help, despite their best efforts. We expect you to be prudent with the lighter and matches when inside or out and exercise due caution around any potential fire hazard. BOATING: Highlights of the Vermont state boating laws are posted in the cottage. We will be happy to forward you a copy ahead of time to assist with your planning and packing or you may access the Vermont Boating Law Highlights online. VISITORS: A reasonable number of guests are welcome to visit during the day but, please, no overnight guests unless we've discussed them ahead of time. We don't want to overtax the septic system! QUIET HOURS: Quiet hours begin at 10:00pm. PETS: Friendly, well-behaved dogs will be considered, only if approved ahead of time. Sorry, no other pets permitted. HOUSEKEEPING: Please allow time for housekeeping before you depart. We expect you to leave the premises as you would want to find them when you arrive. The cottage should be vacuumed and left clean, leftover food disposed of, dishes washed, dirty linens piled on the kitchen table for us to pick up, and trash and recyclables appropriately separated for disposal. For your convenience, a clean-up checklist will be available at the cottage. TRASH: We expect you to abide by Vermont State and Addison County regulations regarding solid waste management. RECYCLING: RECYCLING IS MANDATORY IN VERMONT! It is also easy. There is a large white bin located in the kitchen to hold the materials. There is no need to separate the materials ~ just rinse them, if necessary, then toss them all in together. We will pick up the bin at the end of the week. The following materials are recyclable: Clear, green, and brown glass bottles and jars Tin, steel, and aluminum cans, disposable aluminum pie plates and baking pans All numbered recyclable plastics from #1 to #7 White and colored office-type paper (not paper napkins or towels) Boxboard (such as cereal boxes) and corrugated cardboard Gable-top paper milk and juice cartons COMPOSTING: We encourage you to try composting. All food wastes from meal preparation or leftovers, except meat and fish, can be composted. This includes coffee grounds, vegetables, fruits, bread, pasta, and cereal. If you choose to try composting, ask us for a container to temporarily store the materials. The black compost bin is shared with us and is located between the two properties. DEPOSIT CANS & BOTTLES: These can be redeemed at either of the two general stores in Forest Dale, at Kampersville, or at the supermarkets in Brandon or Middlebury. If you do not have time to redeem your cans and bottles, you may rinse them and bag them separately and we will redeem them after your departure. REMAINING TRASH: There should be a relatively small quantity remaining when all of the other forms of waste management are done. Please use the smaller white trash receptacle in the kitchen for these items and use a trash can liner at all times. Plastic grocery bags should be used for the remaining wastebaskets. (Ask us if you need more.) We will dispose of the trash at the end of the week. If you fill a bag prior to then, bring it to our cottage for disposal. PROPERTY MAINTENANCE: If something breaks, notify us in person or by phone (cottage: 465-4525, cell: 771-7156, or Middlebury 388-3229) and we will send someone to fix it.
