Helpful Information for Renters of
173 Dogwood Drive
If you have any questions not covered here, please ask us.
DIRECTIONS: Enter the following destination in Mapquest or any similar mapping program: 173 Dogwood Dr, Leicester, VT 05733
WATER: The water comes from a drilled well located on the property. You need not bring your own drinking water.
BEDDING & BATH TOWELS: You are welcome to use the sheets and bath towels you find in the bedrooms and bathroom. We have extra blankets available should you need them. We ask that you please bring your own beach towels.
FIRST AID: There are no first aid supplies kept on hand. Please bring your own supplies, including sunscreen and insect repellent, or purchase them when you arrive. For more serious emergencies, we are serviced by the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, which can be reached with a call to 911.
TELEPHONE SERVICE: The cottage does not have telephone service provided, and cell phone service can be erratic due to the nearby mountains. If you have an emergency and are unable to complete a cell phone call, please come to our cottage and ask to use our phone. Guests staying for a month or more have the option of establishing phone service in their own name.
TELEVISION & MUSIC: There is a color television that no longer receives any stations now that the switch to digital has been completed. However, there is a DVD/VCR player for your use with the TV. Showtime Video in Brandon is a great place to get current popular movies. They have a special arrangement with the Brandon House of Pizza where, if you buy any medium or large pizza on Monday or Wednesday, you can get a free movie rental just ask for a movie ticket at the pizza restaurant. If you are looking for more unusual movies and a wider variety, in addition to the popular ones, we highly recommend Waterfront Video in Middlebury. If you prefer music, we have a radio/CD player for your use.
INTERNET: WiFi service is available through an access point at our cottage.
PAPERBACK BOOKS: We like the "Take a Book, Leave a Book" philosophy. We encourage you to help yourself to one of the paperback books next to the bed in the master bedroom but, if you do, please leave another one behind for future readers. The Marion Munford Memorial Thrift Shop in Middlebury (ask us for directions) usually has a good supply of 25-cent paperbacks and supports a worthwhile cause. Otter Creek Used Books in Middlebury (on Main St next to the post office) has plenty of inexpensive paperbacks, the Brandon Free Public Library has used book sales every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1-4 starting in mid-June, and yard sales with paperbacks abound at this time of year.
GAMES AND PUZZLES: There are playing cards, some classic board games, and a selection of jigsaw puzzles. Enjoy them, but please keep the next guest in mind when you use them.

FARM STANDS AND FARMERS' MARKETS: Wayne Kingsley's Farm Stand in Forestdale (right at the end of Dogwood Drive and on the left as you enter the village) has fresh vegetables and fruits from his farm and select other growers. He is especially well-known for his tomatoes and his corn starting at the end of July. Woods Farm Market is located on Route 7 just south of Brandon (ask us for a short cut to get there without driving into Brandon) and offers a large variety of fresh vegetables and fruits including their own tomatoes and corn. Both Middlebury and Brandon have Farmers' Markets. Brandon's is on Fridays and Middlebury's is on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
NEWSPAPERS: Three major newspapers serve the area. The Rutland Herald is a daily paper based in Rutland and the Addison Independent, based in Middlebury, is published Monday and Thursday. The Burlington Free Press is a daily paper based in Burlington. All three list ongoing and special events in their area. These and other papers are available at J&L General Store, Dave's Forest Dale Grocery & Deli, Leicester General Store, and Kampersville General Store, as well as the grocery stores and pharmacies in Brandon and Middlebury.
LAUNDROMAT: There is a laundromat located at the north end of the lake. It is on the right just before Kampersville General Store, opposite the Kampersville Deli & Ice Cream Parlor. Take a left when exiting Dogwood Drive and go north on Route 53 for approximately 3.8 miles. Brandon and Middlebury also have laundromats.
FISHING LICENSES: The state game wardens check regularly for fishing licenses.
