MY VISIT TO INDIA
NEHTAUR, A TOWN IN THE STATE OF UTTAR PRADESH:

This town is in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.  Saima's family lives here.  This is a picture of the main street of one of the smaller towns around Nehtaur:
That odd-looking three-wheeled vehicle is a motorized rickshaw, called a "tampu" in colloquial Hindi.  I have seen these things carry thirty people at a time.  Saima's brother Junaid informs me that up to fifty people at a time is common during rush hour (which seems to be all the time in the bigger cities like New Delhi).
Here the driver of our hired Tata Sumo plays chicken with a Tata bus.  The bus missed us by four feet.  He just wanted to overtake the motorcycle that can be seen between the bus and this truck.  This incident was scary, but this happened so often I got used to it.
Here's the Tata Sumo.  Somewhat of a knockoff of the Mercedes-Benz Gelndewagen, but one-fifteenth the price, diesel-powered and indestructible.  This one, with bald tires, hammered over shale and rocks a minimum of four inches in diameter, for three hours, to get us to this hilltop area in Jim Corbett National Park:
