Gambling and prostitution are regulated and legal, for example. Privateers are pirates are not unheard of, both in bedtime stories and the latest local news. Bars and pubs double as family restaurants and hotels, as well as brothels. Bustling seaports and harbors, however, are what most people picture first at the mention of "Rineport." The local chapters of the Fellowship of the One God are, as can be expected, on a moral crusade to make Rineport more "civilized." So far, the clergymen are not making much progress. The only reason the clergy puts up with the culture is the need for Rineport's shores; a good portion of the New Order's navy is based there. Rineport is the main point of trade between the Elvan Kingdoms and the New Order. Refined metal and other natural resources are traded for the elves' magical objects. Different Elvan ships arrive at Rineport depending on the time of year, which helps prevent any warring Elves' ships from accidentally meeting. Stories of sea monsters and "river trolls" are abundant, as well as rumors of rogue Half-Elves. While the Half-Elf underground is surely not real, it is impossible to definitively know what is lurking in some of the darker, deeper waters. |
