Messaria is often regarded as the most influential of the Nine Kingdoms. Extensive forests have led to regulated forestation and the sale of exotic plants. Domesticated animals such as tropical birds and "Messarian jungle cats" are popular pets across the continent, sometimes even being purchased by elves. Messarian ports are second only to Rineport's in traffic and house a notable portion of the New Order's navy.
There has been a long, long running feud between Messaria and Croppell, the Kingdom of Death. Croppell generally regards itself as above the rest of the New Order, only following the Council because they "choose to." Messaria, usually being the most influential Kingdom at any given moment, is thus viewed with suspicion. Croppell has repeatedly threatened to withdraw from the New Order over sometimes trivial problems with Messaria. For its part, Messaria usually helps to keep Croppell in line with what the rest of the New Order and Council want.
The future, and even name, of the Ruling Family has been brought into question in recent times. For the last two generations, the eldest and most powerful of the heirs has been female; Lyrali Delvoye-Smithe and now Bria Smithe. There has been some push for the old Delvoye name to be adopted again, ignoring the actual bloodlines. |
