Soft Pawn

The now quite wide corridor opens out into a room. A brief inspection seems to show that the walls are as grey and blank as before, and there is no sign or sound of life.

As you set foot inside the room, there is a sudden blaze as torches (real ones, not electric) splutter into life all around the walls. The room glows with orange, flickering light and you see that the walls are more decorated than you had previously thought.

Muraling their way around the room are incarnations of all the Hindu gods. Arms and legs are splaying all over the place as they dance their merry dance. Pride of place, on the opposite side of the room, is taken by Vishnu. His image stands around and above a doorway on the other side, a proud look of regal and godly defiance on his stone carved face. From him emanate the lines of the other gods, symmetrical processions heading to the left and right.

Stepping forwards a little, you turn to see that the lines meet above the door you emerged from, where the participants are apparently consumed by fire. The carvings are excellently crafted, and more than make up for the lack of decoration previously.

You move in to investigate the rest of the room.
