It is clear that the most useful item in your possession right now is your tinted sunglasses. Quickly extracting them, you flip the arms and push them over your nose.
This is apparently just in time, as the howling sound in the air is growing louder and the corridor is lighting up. Though you are not blinded with your newfound protection, you take a couple of steps backwards.
This precaution is justified when, seconds later, a gigantic, three-meter fireball comes hurtling across the passage opening, singing your arms and t-shirt despite the distance. In moments it has passed, travelling left-right.
The sunglasses have protected you from the worst of the glare, and unblinded, you are free to act.
