Louise Peete
"The Dutchess of Death"
Louise Peete was one of the most notorious murderesses of her day, in classic black widow fashion she could make husbands drop like flies.  A talent in which she was known to take great pride.  Not only did she directly murder her husbands but on certain cases drove them to commit suicide.

The first victim would be her first husband R. Henry Bosley, knowledge of her extramarrital affairs was pushing him over the edge, it was thought that he couldn't be pushed further still until Louise let herself be caught red handed with her lover.  Bosley killed himself.

Harry Faurote of Dallas knew also of Louise's affairs during their marriage but didn't hang himself over it.  However Faurote did commit suicide apparently because he couldn't stand the fact that Louise was partaking in prostitution inbetween husbands one and two.

A Texas oilman brought new meaning to the word fling as when they were done he had no intention of committing suicide but she had every intention of shooting him in the head then taking off with his collection of diamonds, when tried she put on a star performance and got off on self defense.

In 1921 at the age of 38 Louise Peete was charged with the murder of millionaire Jacob Denton, the year before although she was still technically married to Richard Peete she had brought forward the subject of marriage, which Denton rejected.  Shortly after she shot Denton in the back of the neck and took possession of the estate.

While in prison on a life sentence she stopped correspondence with her husband Richard Peete, he shot himself in the head, something Louise was quite proud of, proof of her powerful feminine influence.  Hard to argue with.

In 1939 Louise Peete was parolled she was reasonably well behaved despite the disappearance of a female friend which may have been "coincidence".  But in 1942 she killed her parole sponsers Margaret Logan who she shot in the back of the neck, and then for good measure bashed in her skull with the butt of the gun.

Then she had Arthur Logan committed to the Patton State Hospital for the Insane, he died there within a year.  She quickly took their house, forged checks and enlisted herself and Margeret Logan's life-insurance beneficiary.

Peete might never had been caught if she had not gone one forgery too far.  Louise Peete was trying to forge Margaret Logan's signature on the regular reports she had to send to the parole board they didn't buy it and investigated.  When dog's found suspicous mounds in the back yard Louise was exposed.

Her second trial took course in 1945 this time there would be no leniancy, she was sentenced to the gas chamber, the second woman to recieve the death penalty in California.  Amazingly before murdering Margaret Logan she had married a 67 year old banker named Lee Borden Judson.  He committed suicide on January 12, 1945.
