| League rules Overview This is what is known in fantasy sports circles as a dynasty league. Owners will choose any combination of eight drivers or crew chiefs on their rosters, but may not exceed eight. We will each start two cars each race, accumulating points for how those cars do in NASCAR's corresponding Nextel Cup race. Points will be calculated and accumulate from week to week until there are seven races remaining in the Nextel Cup schedule, this season being October 10 at Kansas Speedway. After 29 races, the top four owners in our points standings will begin a seven race "chase to the championship," with the top point scorer beginning with 100 points, the second seed receiving 75, the third getting 50 and the fourth starting with 25. In addition, the top four scoring individual teams (driver and crew chief) will engage in their own "chase to the championship." Using this system, we will crown a car of the year -- consisting of the driver and crew chief from the same team who has scored the most points for that team) and owner of the year. Scoring Each team will start two cars in each race, with a car consisting of a driver and a crew chief. You do not have to field two cars, but the most you can start is two drivers and two crew chiefs. Owners must either post their starters on the Yahoo! postboard or email their starters to the league. Deadline for naming starters is when the green flag flies.... Failure to set a lineup will result in skipping the race, the league will not set lineups for delinquent teams unless asked specifically. Each unit will be scored separately using the following scoring system and added together for a team score. In addition, if the winner of the Busch race that week is on your roster, you will get 30 bonus points. If the winner of the truck race is on your roster, 30 bonus points are yours, making the highest possible score in a week 400 points. After that, teams will be ranked from 1-12 and given points using the same scoring system. NASCAR.com is the first word on crew chief news. In the event that NASCAR.com does not post news on a crew chief change, an owner must either find two other sources stating the news or email Darrell Waltrip and get him to respond with the news stated in correct grammar. 1st: 100 points 2nd: 75 points 3rd: 70 points 4th: 65 points 5th: 60 points 6th: 55 points 7th: 50 points 8th: 45 points 9th: 40 points 10th: 35 points 11th: 30 points 12th: 28 points 13th: 26 points 14th: 24 points 15th: 22 points 16th: 20 points 17th: 18 points 18th: 16 points 19th: 14 points 20th: 12 points 21st: 10 points 22nd: 8 points 23rd: 6 points 24th: 4 points 25th: 2 points Trades To consumate a trade, both owners (or all three if it is a three-way deal) must post on the Yahoo! postboard exactly which units are involved in the deal. The league will not recognize a trade until both parties post and their posts agree. There is no trade deadline nor is there a veto process (except in special circumstances), putting the onus on individual owners to not make stupid fucking deals because one lopsided trade can cause a talent imbalance larger enough to ruin this league forever. The bottom line is that this is your league, and the fate of it rests in your hands. Owners are free to trade as long as they don't go over the 8-unit roster limit. In the case of an uneven trade, one owner must state which unit they intend to drop before the league will recognize it as a trade. Probation Failure to set a lineup twice in one season will force an owner to be placed on probation. Once on probation, the owner plays the game as usual but each trade consummated is subject to a veto process with nine veto votes turning over a trade. In addition, ownerson probation will endure an ouster vote in which the rest of the league will be asked if the probated owner should be allowed back into the league. Majority rules on an ouster vote. The main thing to remember is to set your lineups so that you don't get placed on probation. Free agents All humans on this great green earth (or Mars, if this league lasts that long) except the 96 names on our current rosters are free agents and eligible to be picked up on a first come, first serve basis. To pick up a free agent, owners must either post their intentions on the board or via email to the league. Since both methods are time-stamped, both methods will be the measuring stick. The league postboard is obviously preferred since "I sent the email, honest I did" is not a valid excuse. If you live in an area where an ice storm knocks out the internet and you miss out on a pickup to someone who lives in a more sensible location, God obviously doesnt love you. Dead period We will have a dead period when no transactions can take place from January 1st until the day after Yahoo! makes new auto racing leagues available. Draft and waivers Because this is a dynasty league, will never have a draft again, barring expansion. Because all transactions are first-come, first serve we will not have any sort of waiver process either. Injured list There is no injured reserve or any such foolishness in this league. If your driver follows Dale Earnhardt to the great motor home in the sky, you will simply have to recover by picking up a free agent. If your crew chief has a heart attack and misses a few races, you have a decision to make. That's what this league is about, recovering from tough luck. Trash talk Most of all, have fun and don't take your ball and go home. A lot of people in this league are pretty hard core shit talkers and have run more than a few pussies out of fantasy sports. Fight back and don't be one of them. If you do become one of them, the tentacles sprouting from this league will hunt you down and choke the life (or at least your identity in cyber space) out of you. Don't doubt it. |
