Merv Eyes the Prize CSN manager Mervyn Eeles today laid bare his intention to win the coveted Worldnet trophy. Although the sons have a dificult group, he believes that Dumbarton will emerge as group winners. He told the site this morning ' we have a good enough team to win the group, I have no doubts about that. But we will take it one game at a time, I do think that we have a good chance of winning the trophy, but my main concern just now is the opener against Milwall''. Responding to worries from fans that Captain Simon Eeles would recieve special treatment because of family links, Mervyn made it clear that every player is playing for their place, and if certain players are not performing, he has no hesitation in leaving them out the starting 11, no matter who they are. Last minute Fitness Test for McMillan Striker Gary McMillan will undergo a last minute fitness test on Friday evening to see if he is fit to play at Worldnet. Gary who limped off on Monday night after only 45 seconds is a mojor doubt to travel to Leeds, and Dumbarton medical staff give him only a slim chance of being fit. His striking partner Simon Marment will be fit for the competition, despite having trouble with a groin strain. Two Drop Out Two Fall in Bad news hit CSN today as it was announced that Joel Webster and Phillip Turner will miss the Worldnet due to Injury. Later on in the morning Dumbarton CSN also announced that Brothers Andy and Rick Tasker will be travelling to Leeds for the tournament, after previous reports suggested that they would be unable to make the trip. We feel the squad is still strong and that we have every chance of Winning the cup'. Up Front Injury Crisis For The Sons: With less than a week to go before the start of Worldnet 2004, Dumbarton have been hit with an injury crisis up front. Centre forward Simon Marment is having trouble shaking off a groin injury that has plauged him for almost 6 months. And forced him to watch most of last season from the stands. Along with this Gary McMillan, the sons third choice striker had his comeback from injury cut short last night, after lasting only 45 seconds of a training match. Early indications show that both players may be struggling to be 100% fit for the Start of the Tournament. Defense is the Key to Victory CSN Dumbarton have always been know for their creative midfield play and powerfull fast attacking, but defender Scott Gallagher believes that this year at Worldnet, its the sons defense that will prove to be the deciding factor if CSN Dumbarton are to lift the trophy. Scott along with Billy Rankin and Antony Hall are all fully fit for the competion. Which is great news for the team, as these players will be key for the sons. Captain Eeles' Quest for Glory Simon Eeles has been named captain of CSN Dumbarton for this years Worldnet Tournament. Simon will lead the team from the heart of midfield and hopes to prove to his critics that although he is young, he is capable of inspiring the team to lift the trophy. It is not yet clear who will partner Simon in midfield with the likely candadate being Jason Wallace, with Davie James on the left and Derek McAllister on the right. Both Wingers have lightning pace and the ability to whip crosses in the box. The Skill of Eeles and Wallace with be put to the test early on as Dumbarton face Millwall and Rangers in the first two opening games of the competition. = |
