Galaxie
Let's
Party People!
Fans of British pop group 911
savoured every moment of the mini-concert-cum-party held
recently at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.
Organised by EMI Malaysia and Nestle Non-Stop Ice Cream,
tickets were only available via a local radio station or
a subscription to Galaxie. 6000 fans flocked from the
various corners of Malaysia to see the handsome
threesome- Lee Brennan, Jimmy Constable and Spike
Dawbarn- in the flesh.
10:30am:
Fans were already gathering at the "designated"
entrance to the concert on the ninth floor. Access to the
tenth floor (where the concert was to be held) except the
stairwell and ninth floor carpark entrance were closed
off to members of the public. Security guards were posted
at each entrance.
1:30pm:
The early birds were allowed into the concert area in
batches.
2:30pm:
The concert, scheduled to start at 2pm, was inevitably
delayed due to the large turnout, including those still
stuck outside. The convention centre was only half
filled. A DJ spun some songs while waiting for the rest
of the fans to enter.
2:40pm:
Screaming fans outside were under the impression that the
concert had started. Yep, there were still people at the
entrance desperate to get in. The security guards had a
hard time keeping order.
2:50pm:
DJ Jake kept the crowd entertained with giveaways and
mini singing contests. The crowd was up on their knees
(they had all been told to sit down) trying hysterically
to catch some of the freebies Jake was throwing into the
crowd.
3:20pm:
Local artistes Indigo came on stage and performed two
songs followed by all girl group Elite with three of
theirs.
3:50pm:
Jake informed the crowd that 911 were still in their
hotel room.
3:55pm:
Unconvinced, the fans started shouting "We want
911!" repeatedly in the hope that their beloved boy
band would appear soon.
4:25pm:
Enthusiastic screams and applause rang out when it was
announced that 911 had arrived. Lighting and sound checks
were done by members of the crew. Security was beefed up
in front of the metal barricades that stood between the
animated jam-packed crowd and the stage.
4:42pm:
Dressed fully in black, 911 exploded onto the stage with
combo backflips and jumps to their hit song Love
Sensation amidst extremely high decibels of screaming
action. The crowd leapt to their feet cheering and waving
banners and proclamation of their love (heart-shaped
signs etc) in the air.
4:59pm
The threesome were sweating buckets from their energetic
dance performance even beforethe third number - How Do
You Want Me To Love You. Some over excited fans were
fished from the heaving crowd, the first of a string of
faint cases.
5:15pm:
After peforming Party People...Friday Night and The Day
We Find Love, the trio took a five minute break. Security
gave an ultimatum. Move back or the rest of the show
would be called off.
Later...
The party came to an end after the group's exhilarating
11 song performance including All I Want Is You,
Bodyshakin' and Moving On. 911 fans were still on cloud
nine when they walked out of the convention centre. A
truly memorable and enjoyable performance all round.
