1976 Chrysler New Yorker
400 Motor / 727 Transmission (rebuilt)
After driving the car on the road for awhile, I parked it for several years.
I ended up replacing the transmission with a rebuilt one.
This car will be run in Saline Michigan on Labor Day 2004.
I haven't done very well in this particular derby for the past few years.
This is probably my best car that I am running this year and I hope to do much better.

I was doing good in my heat, until the float stuck in the carb. I was able
to keep it running, but had no power. One cylinder was popping real bad
and had a continual flame out the header. With 3 cars left, I shut it down.
With the top 3 cars advancing and the car barely running, there was no chance
of me beating the other 2. Several of my friends helped me fix the car up for
the feature. I was doing ok, until it stalled and I couldn't get it to fire back up.

I did some work on the car and decided to finish it off in the last derby of
the year. It rained on the way there, the whole evening and the whole drive home.
There weren't a lot of good cars there and I was having a great time hitting
with both ends. The headers had 6 inch blue flames coming out and looked way cool.
With only a few cars left, I lost reverse for the most part and got counted out.
Luckily, I beat the 4th place car by 20 seconds and finished 3rd, which got me
into the feature. For the feature, I wired the front bumper back on and put a
quart of trans fluid in. I went to fire it up and the battery was dead. I quickly
installed a spare battery, which turned it over real slow, but got it to start.
I pulled it down to the staging lanes and figured out that there were still a
few heats to run. I bummed a ride in a golfcart, went and got my 3rd spare battery
and installed it. In the feature, I was doing ok, until I lost reverse completely.
I got stuck in a corner, but got hit a few times, which turned me around and
I was able to get out of the jam, only the car stall and not restart.
I must have waiting down in the pit for an hour, before I got a wrecker to come
get me and get me loaded. I was frozen to the bone, but did get a trophy and
$35 for my efforts. I ended up selling this car to a friend.
