05/12/2000 Infirmary, White Tower, Tar Valon Square in shape, this room is most often abuzz with activity. It contains the normal implements of a teaching infirmary, in fact, it is extremely well stocked with all manner of things: cots, jars, bottles, syringes, bandages, cloths, cabinets, shelves, books and tables along with plenty of hot water. The air has that sterile smell associated with the constant use of redwort, tinged with the unpleasant prickle of witchhazel. While most of the Healing is done via the One Power at the Tower, there are many minor medical situations that are dealt with the old fashioned way. There are several areas curtained off, for patients' privacy as well as for instructional usages. This is a teaching infirmary for the Yellow Ajah, after all. Beds in cheerful colors are lined up in neat rows, providing a comfortable place to sleep after a Healer's tender ministrations. Windows are kept wide open to all for light and fresh air. Kaomi enters, making a beeline for one of the Yellows. Her face betrays nothing. Neither do her lips. They move without a sound, as do those of the Yellows, the only sign to what may be going on some impatient gestures out of each. The Amyrlin Seat is a cautious woman by nature and a distrustful one by necessity. Sitting on one of the beds near the door, Neelkan is hugging his knees slightly and looking extremely bored. At the entrance of a woman he has never seen before his eyebrow raise a little. Expecially the sight of a woman all decked up in a stole and stuff. Unfortunately, he has yet to learn that means Amyrlin Seat. Though he does figure it means someone important, so he only gives her -half- of his usual glare. Slightly softer then the glare he usually gives a woman the first time he sees them. She finishes, and turns. The Mother catches sight of the glare and lifts an ebony eyebrow. A musical voice issues suddenly out of the silence. "Did you put something disagreeable in your mouth, child? You have your face all wrinkled up as if you are a prune." Erk. Someone who's actually willing to site him on his glare. Neelkan sits up a little, his glare lessening even more before he says softly (soft for -him- at least, which is normal conversation tone for everyone else), "No. I haven't eatin' nothin' sour, 'r whate'er." No title? Nope. No title. Least he didn't swear or call her 'woman', though. Right? It takes Kaomi a moment to sort through the accent. Thick, that one. She smooths her stole as she tries to place it. "Then why do you glare so?" A tilt of her head. Is this one in the training program? Not a chance, with that sort of...delivery. So what is he doing in the Infirmary, surrounded by Yellows? Does she even want to know? They've picked up more tattered strays than he. Why does he glare? Well, most people wouldn't be so... blunt about this kind of thing. Especially not with the Amyrlin Seat of all people!! But Neelkan doesn't know that yet. He's spent all this time in the Tower recovering from Healing and he didn't know the Amyrlin's Stole? Nope. He shrugs his shoulders slightly and responds honestly, "'cause I don't like women." Pause. Well, he's met a few women who aren't -too- bad here, so he tags on, "Nothin' personal 'r nothin'. Got nothin' 'gainst ya." A momentary widening of her eyes that melts into sheer amusement. "Well then, my fine fellow, you're in quite the pickle, staying here at the White Tower, aren't you. Plenty of women here." Kaomi tilts her head to the side, starting to catch on to the fact that this uneducated gentleman thinks her stole is nothing more than decorative clothing. If anything this amuses her a good deal more. "A wonder your face doesn't freeze, you'd have to do nothing but glare all day, all night, for all the skirts and silks surrounding you!" "Yer startin' t' sound like m' ma." Neelkan says, narrowing his eyes a little. Oddly enough, his eyes drift down from her face for a moment. He really is a strange one. "'n ye'h. I've noticed the fact 'ere's a lotta women 'round 'is place. 'n it's an island too..." His face goes a little perplexed at the thought of it being an island. Wonder why? Kaomi smooths her skirts. Light, but that's a strange statement. "Yes...Tar Valon is an island." Is that not common knowledge? She pulls a chair over and settles down into it. "Eharon. That is what your tounge sounds of, Eharon. What brings you here, to this island, to the White Tower, to be surrounded by women, and channelers besides?" Her fingers wriggle a little at that one, the chains linking her rings to her braclets twinkling slightly. Yes, she's quite, quite amused...and perplexed, by this fellow. "Eh. Ye'h... Eharon." Neelkan responds, giving his head a small shake which fluffs his already spikey hair even more then before. Spikey hair with white streaks? Hmm. "Uh, I was hurt 'r somethin'. M' 'n m'friends were caught in the middle'a one'a yer battles by accident. I guess one'a the Yellow's brought m' 'ere..." But he doesn't remember any of it. He just remembers waking up in the Infirmary after probably a week or two of being delerious and everythin'. "Trust m'. I didn't 'xactly plan on 'is!" His lips move into a small smirk as he thinks over how strange his life has been since he got 'dragged' here. Even if it did probably save his life... "Ah." A single word, carrying much meaning. "What is your name?" The Amyrlin tilts her birdlike head to one side, glittering onyx eyes taking in the man. The hair...well, people have strange hair, and she will chalk it up to that until otherwise advised not to. "Neelkan." he responds plainly, his smirk fading again. In a very butchered form of some old language the name means Red Peacock. Or Blood Peacock. Or Crimson Peacock. Something along that line. He shifts around to get into a little bit more comfortable a sitting position since he's no longer completely hugging his knees and reaches up to scratch at his hair a little before asking, "'n ya?" The eyes twinkle again. Should she clue him in? No. She's having far too much fun speaking to someone who is plain with her, one of only 3 or four people who will be. "Kaomi of Tairu." A few Aes Sedai blink. A few Novices and Accepted openly gape. Surely the Amyrlin is /not/ going to let this Peacock call her by her first name? Well, maybe she is. Maybe she has her own Deep Mysterious Purpose for it. Their reactions only seem to fuel her amusment, save for her eyes and the slightest upquirking of her mouth, however, she keeps it concealed behind serenity. "Might I ask, Neelkan, how it was you came to dislike an entire half of the population so?" The reactions of those around him oddly enough go unnoticed. Or at least Neelkan doesn't seem to notice. "Kaomi? Nice name!" He replies, his smirk returning briefly before she asks the question... -The- question that probably most people want to ask. "Eh, five older sisters..." Is that a good enough answer? As if to add on a punch line he continues, his eyebrow raising slightly, "In Eharon." Where women are dominant. And men have very little say in anything. "That would do it, yes." Kaomi replies, chuckling softly. "However, I would implore you not to judge them or other women too harshly. Many loose their families in this time, or never knew them at all." A slight undercurrent in her voice. Kaomi means, roughly, Lost Child. Lost Child of Tairu, the Amyrlin Seat. A grimice. Light how she hates that name. Why, why, why couldn't Christabel Sedai have chosen to call her something imposing? A name like...Shamad. Then she could have been the Thunder of Tairu. Or anything that rings off the tounge with noble air. Not a cutsy little name that means Lost Child. Maybe she should have introduced herself as the Amyrlin Seat after all! Hrmpt. That's one way to make his general abhorance for the female gender sound like a bad thing. And Neelkan sits up a little bit more even and instantly defends himself, raising his voice slightly, but not quite a yell, "Hey, if a women's nice t' m' 'n I'm nice t' 'em. 'at simple!" But he's gonna glare first. And he likes the name. It's cute! Which is exactly why she doesn't like it, so maybe he shouldn't say he think's it's a cute name. He hates his real name too, after all! He isn't glaring anymore at least. "Well then, you are doing right," Kaomi says soothingly. Eharonans. Male or female, as prickly as can be. And of course he rules out all but the most understanding of women by glaring at them all the time. Perhaps not. She supposes there are some who like that sort of thing. Reflecting on her own warder, she realizes she is, as well. That brings a slight grin to her lips. "Have the Yellows told you when you are due to be out of the infirmary?" "I was supposed t' leave t'day, but after the incident at the Parade..." Neelkan shrugs slightly, then adds, "I got a lil hurt, not 'at much though, but enough t' keep m' in 'ere a few extra days." Sigh. "Though I guess 'at's a good thin', cause I'm kinda needin' t' get m' earrin's back. Don't wanna leave 'til I get 'em." He pauses again, then adds, realize the woman probably has no idea what he's talking about, "I had some hooped earrin's when I got 'ere, 'n 'ey haven't been given back yet. I'm startin' t' wonder if 'ey misplaced 'em." When actually they're probably trying to figure out what they -do- exactly. As they are ter'angreal. He doesn't know that though. They're just his earrings. "'ey gave m' back the rest'a m'jewelry." Meaning his necklaces. "Earrings? I shall have to see about those." Not that Kaomi seeing about those means that Neelkan will get them back, but because of Raeth, she is a little more understanding about men getting to keep their own things. "Do you remember which Aes Sedai went off with them?" "I don't e'en remember 'em bringin' m' 'ere. But Wyn got m' necklaces back." Neelkan answers, moving the hand that was scratching at his hair and fingers his necklace, "She tried t' get m' clothes back too, but 'ey were torn 'n stuff." So now he's stuck wearing a sissy tunic! Bwah. Well, it's better then the infirmary robe things that felt like he was wearing a dress at least. "Wyntere is a fine woman." Kaomi will have to ask Wyntere what the deal with the guy's earrings are. "Well. Were you hurt during last night's debacle, or merely ordered up out of the Yellow's sense that you were over-excited?" "I got stepped on a lil' bit, but nothin' I couldn't handle. Wasn't hurt near 's bad 's Denn or Espi." Neelkan says with a small shrug. He likes to shorten names, which means it's probably a good thing Kaomi can't really be shortened much more. He was glad he only got slightly trampled, when his friends actually had to be healed. "Just a few bruises really." A few too his pride too. Pause... And something else about the event that bothered him, but it's only visable for a moment by looking away distantly, before jerking his head back. He doesn't want to think about that. "Espiria was hurt?" Kaomi asks sharply. Burn it, that girl is more a center of trouble than six tornados looking for a ta'veren! She shakes it off. He said she was hurt. She smooths the stole. "Would you like to buy yourself some new clothing? Get out for awhile? On your word that you will return." She did not miss that look. That look is getting familiar to her. Its the -I have something I don't want to admit- look. "I think she was Healed. I didn't actually see 'er 'ere, but she was in 'ere when I got back." Neelkan says with a small shrug, looking distant yet -again- at the mention of Espiria. Yes, he would say that girl has trouble following her around. He got a small peek at some of it today. Now, the woman offers him the chance to get out and he blinks, then nods, "I wouldn't mind gettin' out 'gain. Even after what happened at the parade... Just hope nothin' like 'at happens 'gain anytime soon!" That's an understatement. "Don't we all," Kaomi murmurs softly. She reaches into her belt pouch and slips Neelkan a few silver. "That should be enough to get yourself some new clothing. If anyone tries to stop you, tell them you are on business for the Amyrlin Seat. Just return here to rest when you are finished." Amyrlin Seat...? Neelkan takes the coin, and moves to slide off the bed and stand, looking happy at the idea of getting to go out again, hopefully without anything bad happening. But then he hears the stuff about business of the Amyrlin Seat. "The... Amyrlin Seat?" he asks with a confused expression on his face. But then confused tends to be a common expression with this young man. "It means I'm in charge," Kaomi says, with another touch of humor. And the quickest of eye flutters that /could/ be a wink. She doesn't actually smile but the humor carries forward in her voice, loud and clear. The... Amyrlin... Seat... Kaomi. Is the Amyrlin Seat. Neelkan stares at her for a few moments, then blinks and shakes his head. A'right. He can accept this! Really! Doesn't change -anything-. But he still can't believe he was practically rude to the Amyrlin Seat. And almost yelled at her too! Arg. He has the urge to apologize, but he keeps himself from doing it. He finally just manages a smirk, "Well, least I know why 'ere's actually a few" A rare few. "women 'at I like 'ere if yer in charge!" That does bring a smile, and an honest chuckle, to Kaomi's lips. She inclines her head. "I thank you for the compliment. And now I must go see why my warder is about to bubble over like a pot, hmm? Perhaps I shall be down to visit you again." With that she glides out into the hall, a slight smile still playing about her lips.
