04/27/00 Infirmary, White Tower, Tar Valon Square in shape, this room is most often abuzz with activity. It contains the normal implements of a teaching infirmary, in fact, it is extremely well stocked with all manner of things: cots, jars, bottles, syringes, bandages, cloths, cabinets, shelves, books and tables along with plenty of hot water. The air has that sterile smell associated with the constant use of redwort, tinged with the unpleasant prickle of witchhazel. While most of the Healing is done via the One Power at the Tower, there are many minor medical situations that are dealt with the old fashioned way. There are several areas curtained off, for patients' privacy as well as for instructional usages. This is a teaching infirmary for the Yellow Ajah, after all. Beds in cheerful colors are lined up in neat rows, providing a comfortable place to sleep after a Healer's tender ministrations. Windows are kept wide open to all for light and fresh air. Sitting up on the same bed he's been stuck in for days now, Neelkan looks about ready to burst out yelling. His expression is closest to a tense glower which is directed towards nearly everyone in the infirmary of the female variety, which is about everyone. The door opens slowly as a young boy makes his way into the room. He looks around at everyone in the room who aren't stuck in bed, but manages to get overlooked by the Aes Sedai and others. Seeing the young boy walk in, Neelkan grumbles under his breath in the boy's direction, luckily his bed is close by so it could be heard, "Better run while ya can, unless ya wanna be couped up in here for an entire flaming season." After saying that he glares in the direction of the closest Aes Sedai. "I can't, sir." The boy says, just as quietly, to the one who speaks to him. "They said I have to come here everyday." "Poor you," Neelkan looks back over at the boy now and gives him a much more thorough looking over, trying to figure out why a poor kid would be made to come here every day. He can't figure anything out on his own though, so he asks, "Why?" The boy looks up as an Aes Sedai passes by, overlooking him again. "They say they can help me remember who I am, sir." "Oh," is all Neelkan says at first. He reaches up to ruffle his hair almost awkwardly, as if he doesn't know what to say to any of that. Then he just shrugs and lowers his hand, adding, "Well I'm Neelkan. I'm here cause I got hurt, but 'ey're not lettin' me leave yet cause I haven't fully recovered or somethin'." "Yes, sir." The boy says. "They call me Redd." "Ya don't have t' call me sir." Neelkan corrects, "Ya can call me Neel if ya want, 'Redd'." There's a slight pause, then he asks, "So how'd ya forget who ya are anyway?" Like the kid would remember that. Redd nods, "Yes, sir." He says to the comment about not calling him 'sir.' Then he shakes his head. "I don't know. The Aes Sedai said I had a... head... injury..." Green-blue eyes narrow at the boy, and Neelkan mumbles very softly, 'what part'a don't call me sir wasn't clear?' but it was mumbled in such a way it might not be fully heard. "A head injury? I don't even know what all I had, but it must'a been bad if 'ey're still keepin' me here." He turns those eyes to glare at a Yellow again. Redd glances at the Yellow as well before he says, "Are you feeling better, sir?" Looking at Redd again, Neelkan lets out a long sigh. Great. So now he's sir forever. But all he does say outloud is, "I'm feelin' fine, ye'h. But 'ey won't believe me." More glareing is seen. Most the people are probably used to it by now. Redd frowns slightly. He knows what Neelkan is talking about... but he has more worries than just his memory. "I think they are just helping, sir." "Ye'h, well 'ey'd help a lot more if 'ey stopped treatin' me like a bloody five year old." Neelkan grumbles under his breath. And during that, a image appears over his right shoulder. A golden hoop. Spinning around. Cracked in one place. And it speeds up until it's just a golden blur for a few moments before vanishing all together. Redd glances at the hoop silently. He always wished he could understand what they all meant, but he never did understand most of them, this one included. He ignores it for now, putting it in his memory to bring up with one of the few people who knows of his ability later. "Where do you live, sir?" "Right now? Here." Neelkan says with a small sigh, grumbling a little under his breath. Redd frowns. He whispers quietly back to him. "No home, sir?" "It's a little hard t' explain, kid." is all Neelkan says in response to the question on him not having a home. Technically, he does have a home, and he could probably go back to it, if he wanted to. But he doesn't. Then there's his second home. The bandits. But they probably think he died and have moved on by now... He leans back and grumbles softly in anger. Wyntere enters the infirmary. This time she walks straight over to where Neelkan has been for the past few days. She slows as she draws near seeing Redd there. She'll take her time reaching the bed. Redd glances to his side, catching a glimpse of Wyntere out of the corner of his eye as she slows down. He then looks back at Neelkan. Perhaps she hadn't seen him yet. "I'm sorry, sir." "Could ya -please- not call m'e sir anymore? Yer makin' me feel old." Neelkan may have white streaks in his hair, but he's no more then seventeen, he could probably even pass for sixteen fairly easily. He held out on complaining about the 'sir' thing for as long as he could. "Just Neel." Wyntere stops in at the foot of Neelkan's bed. She nods to each. "Redd, Neelkan. Peace favor you both." Yes, it's a woman by Nellkan's bed. Redd nods, "Yes, si..." pausing before he finishes, then looks up at Wyntere speaks. "Hello, Aes Sedai." No no. Not a woman. Wyntere! Neelkan actually sits up a little again, and doesn't glare at her either. He does however give Redd a small stare as he starts to say 'sir' again. "Hey 'ere, Wyntere." Nope. No title from him. Wyntere chuckles as she nearly gets a glare. "Neelkan, if I didn't know better, I'd think you didn't like me much with that glare you nearly gave me." She smiles over at Redd. "How are you, Redd?" Then looking bewteen both boys. "Mind if I join you?" Wyntere seems in a much happier mood than she has been in a long time. "I'm fine Aes Sedai." The words come out, but the feelings seem to get caught up somewhere, and Redd doesn't sounds as if he means what he says. Neelkan raises his eyebrows, and doesn't comment on the not liking thing, but he does say, "Ya can join if ya want, sure." He doesn't say anything for a moment, but then adds, "Did ya look int' gettin' my things back?" Wyntere smiles to Neelkan and then shakes her head. "Not just yet. I haven't had the chance, but you didn't seem to be going anywhere soon." If they aren't ter'angreals or anything special for studying, then she'll make sure you get them back. She finds a chair and sits down. Wow.. it's nice having children around. She glances to her pendant and smiles a little wider at an unknown secret. Then she looks to Redd. "So what is going on with you?" "A friend of mine can channel." Redd begins. "And I haven't seen her since she learned this." That is the problem, but it goes deeper than that. Neelkan's eyebrows raise at the mention of a friend who could channel, but he doesn't say anything to that. He nods to Wyntere, "A'right. I'd like t have 'em back soon if it's not too much trouble." He doesn't like the idea of his belongings in the hands of women. His -only- belongings. Wyntere nods to Neelkan. "I'll do my best. How are you feeling? Stronger?" Yes, she knows you were weak last time. Then Wyntere frowns over at Redd. "Whose your friend? I'm sure she is fine. If she came here and entered the program, then she is under my care." And that's a darn good place to be. Wyntere pages: hmmm she can't get those back easily. What do they do? If he says her name, perhaps Wyntere will let him see her, but then it also risks running into that topic, which not only places him somewhere he wasn't supposed to be, but in a situation that will earn him a few words of reprimand. However, he hates lying, so he speaks up. "Her name is Espiria." "A little, yeah." Neelkan answers. He's sitting up isn't he? But then there's the talk about a channeling student and all that and he just goes silent for a while. Wyntere nods to Neelkan. "good, I'd like to see you out soon." Then Wyntere smiles over to Redd. "Espiria?" Wyntere seems happy to hear that. "She is a fine student and is doing well. She comes to visit me often." Hmm.. visiting the MoNster? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Redd steps toward Wyntere. "Can I see her, Aes Sedai? Soon?" His tone takes on that of a protective brother... or perhaps more than a brother... but he doesn't seem to notice much of a change in it. Neelkan just watches them, eyes looking between the two slowly. He looks a little confused, but he doesn't say anything. Wyntere thinks a moment and then nods to Redd. "In the dining hall over a meal. Understood?" Wyntere doesn't mind them being friends. No Romantic relations though. Dining hall is safe place with someoneelse always in there. Wyntere smiles to Neelkan not forgeting him. Redd nods. "Yes, Aes Sedai." He glances to Neelkan, thinking about something. Perhaps he will ask, but then again, there is too much risk in it, so he still may not. No worries about Neelkan having any romantic relations with students at least. He half-smirks at Wyn to return the smile at least, but again, he says nothing. Wyntere chuckles between the two. She sits the quietly for a moment. "So any other news?" Redd looks to Neelkan silently. No more words from the little Redd boy. "Eep." Neelkan speaks softly as everyone kinda looks at him. He has to say something? "Uh... The Yellows actually let me walk around for a little while today..." That's the most he can think of, unless they want to hear about how he barely slept last night. Wyntere nods with a grin. "That's wonderful." Redd nods, silently.
