LOTTERY INFORMATION The Club has a licence to offer lottery prizes up to a maximum of �2000. The lottery draw is made every Tuesday at 9:00pm at Hallhill. To win, entrants must correctly match 3 numbers in any order between 1 & 30. Each selection of 3 numbers costs 50p. Member teams are invited to collect money for the draw. Half of any money collected goes to the Lottery prize while the other half goes to the collecting teams funds. This means that teams who make an effort will raise more money for equipment, team trips etc than teams who do nothing. |
THE ODDS OF WINNING To work out how many ways there are to pick 3 numbers out of 30 you need to use the following formula; n! / (k! * (n-k)!) k = number of ways i.e. 3 n = total numbers i.e. 30 ! = factorial The formula simplifies to 30! / (3!*27!) which equals; 4060 which means that for each selection of 3 numbers you have a 1 in 4060 chance of winning the prize. Using the the same formula for the National Lottery (k=6 and n = 49) gives odds of 1 in 13983816 !! The moral of the story is that it is better to spend �1 on the Colts Lottery rather than the National Lottery - you stand a much greater chance of winning something. By purchasing a line of numbers you are contributing to a good cause and at the same time giving yourself a chance of winning up to �2000. |
