Trip to Murrayfield for the Colts - 1997�s

On Saturday 28th July 2007 we invited our boys on an outing to Murrayfield to see a friendly between Barcelona and Hearts. All the boys were very excited and we arrived early enough to see both teams arrival at the ground. Thanks to Denis for positioning us in a line right at the front so that everyone clearly saw the players as they disembarked from their coaches and walked right past us, just an arm�s length away! Unfortunately, no player stopped to give an autograph, this time, but Joseph Cameron was lucky enough to steal a handshake from Ronaldhino!!

Everyone was swept into the atmosphere of the 60,000 strong crowd and thanks again to Denis for making sure that we were allocated the best seats in the house, just behind the goal! Denis had anticipated that the best of the action would take place at that goal during the first half and this proved to be the case as Ronaldhino, the world�s best player, powered a goal into the back of the net, from a penalty, early on in the match. Juho Makela scored an equaliser for Hearts and then Ronaldhino thundered in for another goal with a header towards the end of the first half. Thiery Henry, who replaced Ronaldhino, in the second half set up the third goal for Barcelona scored by Dos Santos making it Barcelona 3 Hearts 1 and so to the end of the match which saw the double European Cup winners never get out of second gear. This was no more than an exercise match for the Catalan giants. Players of the quality of Ronaldhino, Thierry Henry, Gianluca Zambrotta, Deco and Lilian Thuram gave an exhibition performance, showing us glimpses of their great skill, and the whole team oozed quality.

What a day! A day we will always remember. First class football, from first class world players, the like of which might not be seen again on these shores, left everyone reeling with wonder and excitement. This was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and experience.
