Pacers Season Preview
It's a fresh new start for the Indiana Pacers. A team that went from title contention to near the bottom within just a season. This past offseason, all but two of the Pacers players were traded away, as new management and a new general manager have stepped in.
So everything has changed, why should the fans of Indiana be impressed? Perhaps it's way too early to judge but the Pacers have built a very solid, balanced team. Everyone but Luke Ridnour has been replaced. The Pacers traded captain Jermaine O'Neal to get SG Michael Redd, one of the best scorers in the game. They can hope he'll show signs of the great Reggie Miller. They also fixed one of their many huge problems in rebounding. In acquiring Zydrunas Ilguaskas, Tyson
Chandler, and Chris Webber to play in the front court, the Pacers have vastly improved their rebounding on both sides of the court. The team has also made deals to get Derek Fisher, Wally Sczcerbiak, and Kelvin Cato. They will not be cheated in bench play to say the least.
There are question marks for this team though. While many people think they should at least be a second round playoff team in the Eastern Conference, there is still the matter of playing the games. Many critics say that the Pacers may not be giving Michael Redd enough scoring help, and that Chris Webber and Zydrunas Ilgauskas have declined into roll players. There is also the matter of Chris Webber's defensive ability at the swing-man position.
The team looks good, and there are questions for every team. Deals will be made and games will be played. We will see what is in store for the 2007-2008 Indiana Pacers.
