| In spelling this year, students will be receiving a list of words to study each week. The first ten or so words will contain the pattern or patterns that the class is studying that week, and each child will select these words from a class-generated list. Each student will also select some words from their own "words to learn" list of sight words. By using this method of word selection, each student studies and learns words that he or she previously did not know and that are suitable to the child's own writing level. | |||||||||||||||||

| During the week, students will have the opportunity to study their words and work with the weekly pattern at the ABC center and through various buddy study activities. They will also have two nights of spelling homework and should study their words at home. Every Friday morning, the children participate in buddy spelling tests. | |||||||||||||||||
