News: Updated March 23, 2005. Dave, Tom and Pete have agreed on a new band name (finally). Formerly The Discouraged, we are now COLOSSUS. We are not affiliated with Marvel comics nor is our name necessarily based upon the X-Men character of the same name. We had writing and rehearsal sessions at Tom's house in South Euclid on March 12 and March 19 and are pleased to have added a couple new tunes to our repertoire, including "Intravenous Angel" and "Hungry People (of the Third World)." For a while there our problem was that we were cranking out plenty of new riffs and musical hooks, but no words. So, at Tom's prodding, I sat down last month and cranked out some lyrics. Click HERE to read 'em all. So we've got plenty of material to draw from now. For those of you who think song lyrics can double as poetry, there ya go. Feel free to print all the crap out and leave it on your toilet for doody reading. But if I catch anyone stealing our shit, I'll pull an al Zarqawi on you.
News: Updated March 1, 2005. We're still trying to come up with a new band name that we can all agree on. We contributed dozens of possible names to a list last week, then surveyed the names to see which we liked most. Sadly, the top scorers were names currently in use by other unknown bands, and Tom doesn't want our group to be called Poopy Pants. I'll update if we should happen to arrive at a mutually pleasing new name.
Photos from the First Day of Music (August 10, 2002) were discovered by Pete over the weekend. The session has been transferred onto DVD for your enjoyment (Store section coming soon). Click on the numbers below to preview the highly erotic images of the fellas. See if you can find the picture of Bob Mori playing drums in a chipmunk mask (highly erotic).

Colossus will play the Cleveland Music Festival again sometime during the weekend of May 13-15, 2005. Venues and times will be announced at a later date, but rest assured that we're gonna be there will bells on. For those who missed our appearance at last year's showcase, check out the stuff below.

The Discouraged (Colossus) made their live debut at the Hi-Fi Club in Lakewood on Friday, May 21, 2004, as they opened the Cleveland Music Festival. The guys had a final rehearsal at Dave's house, waited out a thunderstorm / hailstorm, then loaded their gear and headed down W. 117th. We unloaded and backlined our equipment, chatted a bit with the fellows from The Margot Catcher, then walked over to the McDonalds to scarf double cheeseburgers and ponder the nutritional value of the "I'm Lovin'It" fare. Returning to the Hi-Fi, we greeted our friends and relatives who so kindly bought tickets (!) to watch the performance. For those of you who missed out, the show was recorded for posterity and is now available on both CD-R and DVD. Thanks to Mike for filming the event. Some photos of us kicking ass are posted below. The rest are posted HERE.
We played for about 35 minutes. No major problems. We feel our set was well-paced, our individual performances sharp, and our collective groove fairly taut. For those of you who missed out, the show was recorded for posterity and is now available on both CD-R and DVD. Thanks to Mike for filming the event. Some photos of us kicking ass are posted below. I assure you, if you buy an official Discouraged product, I will convince Dave to sign it for you if you wish, bwa ha ha. Here's the setlist:
1. Punk Song / Go-Go Bar
2. Mountain
3. Nice Guys
4. Queens
5. El Scorpio Bucho
6. Angelf*ck
7. Pillowtalk
8. Honeybee
9. Roger's New Car
10. White Light
The guys visited the Phantasy Theater (across from Hi-Fi) on Saturday night to check out The Misfits, who headlined the Cleveland Music Festival. They rocked, reminding us why we got into this racket in the first place...
