The CD-R Manufacturing Process :

The manufacturing of a CD-R is actually a very simple process. It involves the below steps:

1. Injection moulding

2. Dye spinning

3. Silver Sputtering

4. Lacquering

5. Printing

The processes are quite simple and forward, the Poly-carbonate (PC) is melted during the injection moulding process, using the mould and stamper to create a transparent PC substance. This substance (CD) has groove or track on it from the stamper.

After being cooled down, the substance will be applied with CD-R dye, and the CD will be rotated so fast that the dye ( liquid form ) will spread all over the CD forming a uniform thickness of dye on the surface of the CD.

The CD will be heated and let cool off again. The CD will be sputtered or sprayed with a metal, normally Silver at the dye side. After the sputtering the disc will be covered via spinning lacquering process.

The lacquer is made dry by the UV light, normally the CD from this stage would be transferred to the printing machine for printing job. Else these CD could be used as blank unbranded OEM CD-R.
