Playing In E
BACK
And now we come the more basic guitaring side of this page...

id just like to say ( i think i insert some disclaimer here or something, but this will have to do) that if any of this stuff is wrong or i didnt do things the way its 'supposed' to be done, pls dont sue me  :P

ok ok... now on to the lesson
The E key, is probably one of the easier to learn keys, if we cheat in a way. What i mean is that all the stuff below are NOT pure chords.
Their usually B sus something on something major .... but for most situations, it sounds alright.

What makes them easier to play is the fact that they can be played as open chords. Dont ask me why. I really am not familiar with all the theoreical stuff. I just know how to play and have a desire to share it. But the fact that they are open chords means that you can have a few strings that you never have to touch, nomatter what chord (in the key) you have to play.
(You can also play the key of G in open chords... though thats abit harder and i may cover that next time)

ok ok ... enough words
i'll basiclly give the tabs for the different chords
if you dont understand either look at
my tab notation or mail me.
Ok... lets start on an ordinary E chord

Now if we pull that up 2 frets and bring the finger on the 4th string down one ... we have F#m
(note: by up i mean pull towards you - up the fret board. Also, buy 4th string  i mean counting from the top ie 1 would be the base E string 2 - A etc. )

If we if we hold that exact position and pull up 2 frets, hey presto !!  we get G#m

And again if you pull up one fret and pull the   4th string finger up.... you get A   :)
(getting the hang of this? )

Pull it up 2 more frets in exactly the same position and u get B !!!

And lastly, (though you could keep going) pull up 2 frets and bring the 4th one down and you get C#m (usually i dont go this far cos you really cant get any distiction between B and C#m)

There is a second way you can play E. This one starts on A2.

If you use your last 2 fingers to play the two middle strings, slide them up 2 frets, then put your index finger on the 2nd fret of the 2nd string, you are playing another form of B

I'm going to be sick of saying this over and over again (maybe i should copy and paste) cos its really that simple. Just pull 2 frets up and you get C#m

And finaly, pull 3 frets up and you get E

Notice how all the chords have 0's on the 1st, 5th and last string. This is what we mean by open chords. Through every chord, these strings dont change, and make it abit easier to play.

Before I close this, id just like to say that there are alot of other ways to play these chords. Another form of A and B are on the right respectively.

Also, i'd like to remind you that these are not pure chords. The real chords require you to bar an entire fret, which a lot of ppl dont like doing but is a useful thing to get used to.
I say this because many songs sound nicer with the pure chords.

But try mixing these chords and pure chords to whatever sounds nicest. It takes practice, but once you mastered these chords, you can do almost anything ( provided you can sing high enough and know how to traspose keys  :P  )

God Bless
and dont stop worshiping Him
