Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR :

DT: Hello DANIEL, How are you?.
Daniel:
Hi there. I’m quite fine. I recently became a father again, to my second daughter. Otherwise, things are going pretty well with my bands and I’m creating a lot of cool music these days!

DT:
When & why the band was formed? (current line – up).
Daniel:
I formed the band in 1997, and it simply was to have my own band for the very first time. I was the live guitarist in SATYRICON at that moment, but I kept writing my own material, though in a whole different genre than SATYRICON. The current situation is that I run the band alone, and use different guest musicians when I’m doing albums. It’s not a big deal since I’ve always been responsible for most of the music anyway…

DT:
Your musical influences?.
Daniel:
My all time fave band is Death. Bands like PANTERA, MESHUGGAH and so forth means a lot to me. But I listen to a lot as my music collection consists of over 1200 items!

DT:
Who put the name of the band and why?.
Daniel:
After several suggestions within the band, a friend came up with SCARIOT. It was cool enough and that’s there’s no deeper meaning behind it…

DT: What memories do you have about your "Deathforlorn" 2000?.
Daniel:
It was a cool album to record and I still think it’s pretty ok for a debut. Originally, we were a straight Heavy Metal band, but I remember a friend of us, RONNI THORSEN from Trail of Tears, visited us in studio, to do some back up growling vocals. He ended up doing about 50-60% of all the vocals on that album, hehe! Anyway, I think we somehow did an original twist to it all, using clean and growling vocals together at the same time, creating a cool and unique atmosphere back then…

DT:
When did you start playing?
Daniel:
Hm, back in 1992 when I was fifteen, I think.

DT:
What do you think about Skihneads, Skaters, Punks and Straight Edgers?.
Daniel:
I don’t care. There are good and shit in every scene. Stay true to yourself, and the rest of the world can go fuck themselves…

DT:
Your musical productions? (include rehearsals, demos, etc…)
Daniel:
Ok, here we go, in chronological order:

SCARIOT:
Loosing Faith (Demo), Demo’99 (Demo), Fear/Addiction (Demo), Deathforlorn (album), Tongueless God (album), Pinion Dark (Demo), Pushing for Perfection (Demo), Strange to Numbers (album) and the upcoming album being released in 2005.

BLOODREDTHRONE;
Deathmix (Demo), Monument of Death (album), A Taste for Blood (mini-album), Affiliated with the Suffering (album) and Altered Genesis (album).

COBOLT 60;
Salvation Principle Result (Demo) and Meat Hook Ballet (album).

TRIOXIN;
Repugnance Factory (demo).

DT:
How did the idea of "Pushing for Perfection" EP 2002?’
Daniel:
This Demo was the second, but our first professional Demo we did, after our new singer joined the band. It basically was recorded to show the “new” SCARIOT, and hopefully get a new record deal…

DT: Tell us a little more about the "Pushing for Perfection" EP 2002?
Daniel:
Well, it’s three songs, and all of them appear on the Strange To Numbers album (in one version or another). It was printed in 1000 copies and sent to various labels and magazines.

DT:
What topics do you consider in your lyrics?
Daniel:
Well, for the upcoming album, I wrote all the lyrics, and they focus on all the misguiding and failures mankind do to eachother.

DT:
How is a gig with SCARIOT?.
Daniel:
We’ve always had a Rock ‘n’ Roll attitude, but with a sense of professionalism at least. We focused on performing well as well as being a cool show-off band.

DT:
How do you describe your style?.
Daniel:
Heavy, Thrash, Melodic, Death – all combined together. We’re often compared to NEVERMORE

DT:
What do you know about Peruvian Scene?.
Daniel:
Sorry to disappoint you; nada…

DT:
Your fave European bands?.
Daniel:
MESHUGGAH, KING DIAMOND and LOWDOWN amongst others.

DT: What do you know about Peruvian Scene!!!???.
Daniel:
Hm, still nada…

DT:
Which one do you think is the best album?.
Daniel:
Human by Death!

DT:
Do you like AC/DC?.
Daniel:
Naturally…

DT:
Who designed the SCARIOT's logo?.
Daniel:
I believe it’s a regular font, but I guess there will be a new logo on the upcoming album!

DT:
Nowadays, are you friends with the guys of GEHENNA?.
Daniel:
I’m still friends with SANRABB, and I know a couple of the other guys playing there too…

DT:
DANIEL, talk me about your work with COBOLT 60 please.
Daniel:
This is the Blackthrash project me and the singer in my other band, BloodRedThrone, recorded one hell of a cool album with in 2002, entitled, Meat Hook Ballet.

DT: What CD's / bands have you been listening to lately?
Daniel:
That’s quite a lot albums, but the new album of ANNIHILATOR, the I ep of masterminds MESHUGGAH and the new GRAVE album for instance!

DT:
What can you talk me about "Tongueless God" 2001?.
Daniel:
A great second album with cool songs and good production. Unfortunately, this album suffered from a total failure from our label at that moment, and the album was only released by the band itself…

DT:
Tell us about "Strange To Numbers"... do you have any favourite songs on the album?
Daniel:
This album is a major step up for SCARIOT, and also introduces our new clean vocal singer. Fave songs are Prospects Unknown and Lady X.

DT:
Of all your productions, which one has given you the most satisfaction?.
Daniel:
So far, I believe that must be the upcoming BloodRedThrone album, Altered Genesis!

DT:
Your future plans?.
Daniel:
I’m really looking forward to the response on the upcoming SCARIOT album. It will be another step in the right direction of the band, and there’s some real cool stuff this time! I don’t know about live playing yet. Also, BloodRedThrone will do a lot of touring in 2005!

DT:
Give us some reasons to listen to SCARIOT.
Daniel:
Quality, something different from Norway, somehow an unique sound. Pretty much cool metal music!

DT:
Your last growl for DT. Readers….. where can they find your stuff?.
Daniel:
