Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR :

DT: Hello GOBLIN, How are you?
G:
Hails to you Mr MUTILATOR! It’s 08:08 in the morning over here in cold Norway, and we have 3 degrees above zero right at this moment, and all my joints are frozen stiff…. Perfect Black Metal conditions: Cold, dark, colorless and grimm. I’ll have another sip of my coffe and continue on your questions now…
Dr: He is a psychical mess.

DT:
When & why the band was formed? (current line – up)
G:
The band emerged because MR ARAK wanted to record some of his stuff in my “studio” back in 1992… I really loved what this young lad had produced, and wanted to be a part of this! We started making music togheter (And also with our friend CHONG…. Eh I mean “BEHRAM”) and formed a demo entiteled ICEWIND “The Call of The Icewind”. This sold in 9 copies! The band went to musical an lineup changes over the next few years, and ended up at the current combo that is best for ISVIND: ARAK DRACONIIZ-Everything and GOBLIN-Everything. We use various session-members for live-shows. And our latest bassplayer “DRHOGHOG”, has proven to be the most fitted for ISVIND yet
Dr:
I’ve always been interested in music, and after a while I felt that I could not get all the rage and aggression out. So it was naturally to do it the musical way

DT:
Are you natural from Oslo?.
G:
I’m actually from a little place outside Oslo called Ski… Hail Follo! But I more or less grew up in Oslo (Elm Street)
Dr:
I was born in Denmark and we moved to Norway the year of my birth. The first years I lived at the Norwegian countryside almost in the middle of the forest. After that I’ve moved to Oslo, but now days I live at the countryside nearby Oslo.

DT: How old are you GOBLIN?
G:
I’m old Gandalf… I feel stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread… Or something like that.
Dr: I think he is about some light years old

DT:
Your musical influences?
G:
Whenever I hear high quality riffs and flawless performances of such, I get inspiration to be as good. Musical influences comes from some many different stuff I hear. I listen to almost everything I can come over, but the music that is the most outstanding in my ears, is music that paints pictures in my brain. This is on a personal level, and each day has it’s different mood so one day, it can be DARK THRONE and the next day it can be DJANGO
Dr:
MOTORHEAD, SLAYER, TESTAMENT and a lot of typical Heavy Metal (MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, Old METALICA, KING DIAMOND……)

DT:
Who put the name of ISVIND and why?
G:
This is a very long discussion in our band. Ofcourse I mean thet I put the name on the band, and Cheech… I mean “Behram” says he did it. But as far as I know, the name came about in 93 I think, and has sticked with us since and we are glad it did. No new logo, no new spelling… Just plain and simple: ISVIND…

DT: What memories do you have about your early days in ISVIND?
G:
I remember something about trying to sleep in a barn, but it was too cold, so we tried sleeping in our guitar-bags.. Also some spaghetti-making 15 metres above ground and pouring the water down on “innocent” pedestrians… And there was also one time we actually rehearsed!

DT: When did you start playing?
G:
When I was 10
Dr:
I think I was about 15-16 years old

DT:
What do you think about Skihneads, Skaters, Punks and Straight Edgers?
G:
Short hair, Big Pants, Too many Piercings, Askew…
Dr: I’ve know good and bad people inn all of the above categories…

DT:
Do you like drink Chicha de jora with blood?
G:
And what fascinating “leskedrikk” whould this be? If it’s alcohol… sure
Dr: Newer tasted or heard of it but I think I prefer beer.

DT: Are you crazy for Marijuana?
G:
Personally I do not like it…
Dr: Nope… Beer…. Mmmmmm….

DT:
What do you think about Religion, Church and Pope?
G:
I have problems with religionising of masses. It’s a very narrow way of life, and I would not like to be bound by this… If I’m good, god will pay me and if I’m bad, God will punnish me… It’s too simple! People should take responsibilty for their actions right here, right now… Not when at some point one kicks the bucket and stands at the edge of the afterlife. About Churches and the pope, I have seen very little of it…
Dr:
I don’t think about it, I only laugh

DT: Do you think that wearing chains, blood, make-up and all that stuff is important for you image?
G:
All of the above adds to our music splendidly. When it comes to image, our image has allways been rotten and very harsh. Bloood, ugly makeup and spikes fullfills this aura.
Dr:
It feels good… It has noting to do whit image!

DT:
Your musical productions? (include rehearsals, demos, etc…) If you have more recording than those appearing above.
G:
So far we have this: Demo-Demo-Promo-7”-CD-7”-Promo. There are also some live-videos circling around as far as I know… And we want to see! So if anyone has something, send us a mail! We have more or less all the songs ready for a new album, and will hopefully record this during winter…

DT:
Are you into computers? If you are, what kind of computers do you use PC, Mac or Sinclair ZX-81, Atari 800 XL, Commodore Vic 20?
G:
Anything that surfs porno!
Dr: Commodore 64 is the only true computer (The old version)

DT:
How did the idea of "EP '94"?
G:
We were actauallu just thrown into this deal, we had the “Herskerinnen”-promo, and sold it for two weeks or something, and then it was time to enter studio to record the 7”. We did this over a weekend at Frogner Lyd. It turned out pretty OK for our first studio-time.
Dr:
Nope. The only thing I belive has any magical influence is the nature it self.

DT: Tell us about your 2 Demos (1994)
G:
The first one “Nivelheimen” was recorden on 3 tracks at our friends place, and was kind of an experimental time for us, with different styles and execution of the music. We would have never guessed at that time that “Nivelheimen” would sell 400+ copies! At the second one “Herskerinnen”-Promo, we were abit more secure about our style, and had more ideas on how to record this. So this is really when ISVIND started to be what it is today.

DT:
What topics do you consider in your lyrics?
G:
The coming of evil, the downfall of weak. And porno…

DT:
Do you practice Satanist Rites?.... are you into Black Magic?
G:
No… or wait! Is this the one with girls?
Dr: Nope. The only thing I believe has any magical influence is the nature it self.

DT:
What do you think about BORKNAGAR’s “Epic”?
G:
They play guitars, right?

DT:
How is a gig with ISVIND?
G:
Loud, and obnoxious!
Dr:
They are straight forward Black Metal. Either you like it or not!!!!

DT:
Do you played with MAYHEM?
G:
Not Live
Dr:
Nope

DT:
How do you describe your style?
G:
I don’t have time to analyze our own music…
Dr:
True Norwegian Black Metal

DT:
What do you know about Peruvian Scene?
G:
Sadly I do not… Maybe someone could enlighten me? Actually I do not know much about the scene in general. Ask me about Beer!
Dr:
To little I’m afraid. Maybe I should do something about it

DT:
Tell me about your MICHAEL JACKSON's cover "Thriller"
G:
We had a really hard time making MJ sit still for the shot

DT:
Your fave European bands?
G:
ABBA, DDE and other bands with big letters!

DT: Are you into Serial Killers, what do you think about RICHARD RAMIREZ, TED BUNDY, etc...
G:
Serial is not to be killed, it is to be eaten or not to be eaten.. I like it raw, and without milk. It makes it all much more difficult that way. But those people you mention has nothing on the worst serial killer of all time, who murdered 800 people with a yellow scarf
Dr: Nope. And I have noting to say about it.

DT:
What do you think about Voo – Doo, Black Magic, Satanism and UFOS?
G:
Are these Peruvian meals?
Dr:
If all those tings were true the world would be a much funnier place to live

DT:
Do you beleive in God?
G:
Absolutely not
DR:
How could I??? He don’t exist!!!!!!!!!

DT:
Do you like THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL?
G:
They have BIG letters, so I must like them
Dr:
I have to say that I’m more into the Heavy Metal inspired music than the folk song kind of music.

DT:
What can you talk me about your "Dark Waters Stir" (1996)?
G:
This is as we all know the first fullength from ISVIND. Recorded again at Frogner Lyd, and SOLISTITIUM Rec. as the financeer of this recording. At that time, we recorded all the songs we had finnished (And also one that was not finnished) and put it toghetter to form a fullength. The cover was completely ISVIND - Design, and many people has mistaken this to be a promo-CD… Well: HAHA!

DT:
Tell me about the original ISVIND's line - up.
G:
ISVIND was, and still are…

DT:
Which one do you think is the best ISVIND's production?
G:
The Call of The Icewind
Dr: I special like some of the new stuff “Decende” and “Vagina Maria” They sounds great on the new promo CD

DT:
Do you like VENOM?
G:
Again.. big letters! Must like it!
Dr: I have to say that Venom is great, I probably listen to little to it but it’s great.

DT:
Do you prefer, THE GREEN GOBLIN or DR. DOOM?
G:
I prefer zombie-movies…

DT:
Which was your relation with THE CHURCH OF SATAN?
G:
Nothing

DT:
Do you have the recordings from old times availables?
G:
I wouldnæt know, hehe.. I think there is still some material flowing the scene somewhere. Just put your ear to the ground and ye will find!

DT:
Is HELLHAMMER a friend of yours?
G:
Did an interview with him, have a beer with him when I meet him… Or what have you heard?
DR: I know him, but I can’t say that we really are friends but if I meet him I say hello.

DT:
Talk me about your Split with the Italian Black Metal band, ORCRIST please.
G:
I had nothing to do with this, I just played drums, guitar and vocal on this one… And now I have a stable of 7” at home

DT:
Is it true that in your teenage years besides playing in Metal bands, you worked as a Porno Actor?
G:
As far as I know, my teenage years was spendt doing just this, yes
Dr: Maybe in my dreams….

DT:
Were you into Punk Rock? What do you think of the Punk Rock Scene of the Late 70’s?
G:
Personally I never got into Punk. But grown men puking in eachother mouths on stage must be a killer thing to do. Alcohol and loud music.
Dr: I’ve newer relay been a big punk fan or into that kind of music. I’ve heard good bands, but I don’t get that real exited feeling.

DT:
Who designed the ISVIND's logo?
G:
It was an English man called ALEX, we are very happy with this logo!

DT:
Who’s darker, MICHAEL JACKSON or HELLHAMMER?
G:
MICHAEL was darker at one point, but then Pepsi put him on fire!
Dr: He… He… If you think of the skin color I’m not quite sure. I’ve haven’t seen MICHAEL sins I was a small kid, he seems to have lost the interest for me after my 10th birthday. But if you mean the way of living I’m quite sure it’s HELLHAMMER.

DT:
Of all your productions, which one has given you the most satisfaction?
G:
The next one (How’s that for cliché?)

DT:
Your future plans?
G:
Looks like the time ahead will be used to finnish up the tracks, and record our fullength. We do not have a label at the moment, but hope to make a serious deal soon. ISVIND would love to go and play as much live as possible, so you should arrange something in your home-town for us

DT:
Give us some reasons to listen to ISVIND?
G:
Ehm… You get what you deserve? Ehm… You don’t know what you got ‘til it’s gone?
Dr:
It’s true and it’s evil (No It’s not! –Goblin)

DT:
