Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR :

DT: When, where and how the band was formed?- Current Line - up
ZAKH:
The band started in the year 2000, when MARCOS and DAVID put together their projects (both with similar goals) and began ALBERZAKH. The band only had two members but in time, they started calling others, such as SAMUEL the first and only bass player. A lot of singers and drummers passed through the band until it found MARCELO (drums) and NILTON (vocals), which gave the strength and the structure missing in ALBERZAKH. Nowadays the band is formed by NILTON (vocals), DAVID (electric guitar), MARCOS (electric guitar), SAMUEL (bass) e MARCELO (drums).

DT:
Why the name of ALBERZAKH?.
ZAKH:
DAVID MARTINS came up with that name which means "The passage". When a person dies, his or her soul is asked about his or her faith. If the answers are of satisfactory, the soul goes to ALBERZAKH, heaven. If not, the soul is spanked with iron sticks as a punishment. We see that name as the place we are right now, and how we are constantly tested about our faith in life and in our goals and accomplishments. If we are going to fail or succeed is up to us.

DT:
What topic do you trade in your songs?.
ZAKH:
ALBERZAKH's songs are mostly about God, faith, religion, skepticism, love, success and frustrations. All lyrics so far have been written by DAVID MARTINS and MARCOS GARCIA. We think that many ALBERZAKH's lyrics have a great literary value.

DT: What do you think about Skinheads?
ZAKH:
We don't believe in any kind of blind hate and prejudice. We should be ashamed to reach the XXI century and see people hating and killing each other for no reason.

DT:
How do you describe your music?.
ZAKH:
The band has strong influences of bands from the NWOBHM, such as IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, and others, what helped us so we could follow the same Idea (in our vision), however, with our style and thoughts. We believe we make what we call New Wave Of Brazilian Heavy Metal.

DT:
Your musical productions?.
ZAKH:
Our first real musical productions are our DEMO "The Queen" and the Alberzakh's single coming up.

DT:
Your influences?.
ZAKH:
IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, METALLICA (OLD), BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, UFO, NAZARETH, RAINBOW, JOE COCKER, METAL CHURCH, STEVE RAY VAUGHAN, RUSH, DREAM THEATER, JUDAS PRIEST, and others.

DT: Are you into drugs?.
ZAKH:
One of the great things about ALBERZAKH is that we are all friends that go out together, make rock and roll together and we all are non-stereotyped rock and roll artists. None of us do drugs because we don't believe in it and we don't believe that we need drugs to do great rock music and to create great songs.

DT:
What do you think about Satan?.
ZAKH:
If we believe in God, we have to believe in Satan. There is no good without evil, positive without negative or happiness without sadness... Our lives are built in those antitheticals.

DT:
Do you know SPECTRUS?.
ZAKH:
No.

DT:
Do you believe in UFOS?... do you know SIXTO PAZ?.
ZAKH:
W believe there's life outside Earth, we are not sure if this life forms are the classical E.T.s that we see in SciFi movies or in flying saucers but we believe they do exist. We don't recall SIXTO PAZ right now.

DT:
Do you like drink "AYAWASKA" in your breakfast?.
ZAKH:
Ayawaska? We have no ideia of what this might be.

DT: Do you think in Anarchy like an alternative for a positive change in this society?.
ZAKH:
Yeah. We think that in countries like Brazil, people maintain and work for the govern and not the opposite. People tend to think that all kinds of Anarchy are non-organized and brutal and they aren't. In Brazil we already have to pay for particular schools, security, medical assistance. Our roads are administrated by private companies. An anarchy regime would only spare us to pay again for those services. The government is a web of corruption and abuse of power.

DT:
Do you believe in God?, what do you think about Religion?.
ZAKH:
we believe in a superior power and I believe that goodness is like a chain. The more we do, the more we get. We believe that all religions have something interesting to say, but We are not 100% faithful to any of them.

DT:
What do you know about Peruvian Metal Scene?.
ZAKH:
We think that's really difficult to be a metal band outside Europe and the US. The bands don't have support from big labels and in most cases they have to maintain themselves.

DT:
Do you believe in SANTA CLAUS?.
ZAKH:
Sure, He'll give us a signed contract of a million copies as a Christmas gift.

DT: What can you tell me about the scene in your country?.
ZAKH:
There are a few cases of bands who had some foreign recognition as SEPULTURA, ANGRA and VIPER.... but still very few.

DT:
Do you like ANGRA?.
ZAKH:
They don't meet our personal music taste, but their quality as musicians is great and really respectable.

DT:
Your future plans?.
ZAKH:
Keep up the good work and hope for the best. No pain, no gain.

DT:
Anything more for DEATHTHRASHER readers?.
ZAKH:
Yeah. Don't let TV, radio and manipulating medias tell who you are. Nowadays we have the Internet. You have enough freedom to discover which bands suits you better. If you like their music, support them, do your part to help them to be alive.
